What's your commute time?

We moved this summer and it doubled my commute. It used to be a five minute walk and now it is a 10 minute drive.

(But now we don't have to listen to the snowcats going all night long. A worthwhile trade-off IMHO.)

Cheers, TG

I like variety, so have never managed to settle on a mountain to call home -- even when I have a pass. The last 3 winters, I was based in NJ, so I was 25 mins from local mountain where I skied some, but mainly spent weekends at various VT mountains which meant 3-4 hr drive. This winter I expect to be based out of MA again, so I'm about 50 mins to a local mountain which I'll try to hit once/week after work, but will also spend most weekends driving 2.5-4 hrs to ski NH, VT, ME.

--this is one jealous mouse; I ~love~ Tellluride!

From Spartanburg, SC, Cataloochee is about 1 1/2 hr. But the 2bigger mountains are about 2 1/4 and 2 1/2 straight north.

From my dad's in VT, there are six slopes 3-26 miles from the house.

An hour to the closest (the 4 areas of the Summit at Snoqualmie), 1:45 to my home mountain (Stevens Pass).

Closest one is 4 hours, other one is 4.5 hours. We usually leave at 4am  on a Saturday morning and drive back Sunday night. Did that 5 weekends in a row last year. This year I've tried to do mostly do longer trips - 4 days minimum to break up the drive.

1.5 Hrs to Mt Hood for downhill. 1.5 hrs to Mt. Adams for XC.
Not bad, but people from Portland drive crazy on the mountain, which puts my nerves on edge. They don't use their heads b/c they don't drive in snow a lot I guess. (Tailgating in ice, passing on 2-lane curvy and snowy roads over double yellow lines, etc) Wish people would just slow down! Then we'd all get there faster.
Sorry... traffic rant.

It's 46 miles to the closest spot, where we'll be doing the majority of our skiing this year. On a good day with good road conditions, that's 45 to 50 min. If I go to Squaw, it's about an hour and ten. And there are times when I can ski down my own mountain (I live on top of one), but it's a long walk back up so I'm not inclined to do that unless really motivated!!

Interesting....pretty much sums it up for the "other" Portland as well, with which I have to deal (in addition to other assorted coastal cities). Oh, the haste...and the waste....

I'm about 45 miles to any of 3 big resorts, but the 50-60 minute drive can turn into hours if there's a wreck en route/home from...all 2 lane roads, ditto the driving conditions being testy. One wreck and the road is closed....

I'm about 25 miles, 45 minutes from Boston Mills Brandywine. We took a drive down there yesterday to pick up DBF's ski pass. The trees are just lovely in the Valley this time of year.

It's about a half hour from work, either way it's not too bad. I drive 45 minutes to work everyday, so I'm used to it.

3 hours from our house to our home mountain - Mt. Snow. About 90 minutes to Wachusett.

I am so jealous of the Divas that live close to a ski area. It is about a 4 hour drive to Windham, which is the closest ski area SO will go to and about 6.5 hours to Whiteface, which we consider our "home mountain". That is, of course, good driving conditions...one minor fender bender on a NY bridge can increase those times greatly.

Caberfae is 20 minutes one-way, Crystal is 40. Beyond that, there's Boyne Mtn and Highlands, Nub's Nob, Cannonsburg, Mt Holiday, Hickory Hills, Snow Snake and Skyline all 1-2.5 hours away (of course, the biggest one is, like, 500 feet.).

Loveland is 45 minutes from home

But, we rented an apt in Breckenridge for the season and will make most trips from there this year. This is an experiment that we will try in place of our annual trips (at least on paper, the cost is lower)

Breckenridge slopes - 5 minutes
Keystone and A-Basin- 20-25 minutes
Copper - 20 minutes
Vail - haven't gone from here yet, so I'm guessing 30 - 40 minutes

(If the apt rental works we will do this again next year, but may try to find another skier to share costs. I saw this strategy advertised on Craigslist by someone who mainly skied during the week and was looking to share with someone who skied on weekends.)

Whitetail in PA about 1 hour 20 minutes depending on traffic - 960 ft of vertical. Ski Liberty in PA is about the same distance, less vertical.

About 3 hours to our home mountain of Killington (only 2.5 from work!).

It was 5 hrs when I was in NJ & NYC, so I have moved closer

Slipnslide - that would be of interest.
I got into a ski club this year, but the novelty of shared bathrooms and bunkbeds might wear thin. Good for this year to meet up with people and find fellow skiers, but in future seasons I might be interested in coming in on an arrangement.

My shortest drive is about 1.5 hours, longer to Vail etc. But in my experience - that's nothing! It regularly took 4-5 hours from South CT to Killington, and prior to that, up to 24 hours and a shed load of money to get from the UK to a ski resort (mind you, you make sure you choose wisely when you spend that amount of money, so I've skied in some great places).
