Whitefish 15-16

Didn't go today, but went yesterday, 12/18. Snow was excellent quality, fairly dry and light. Terrain is still being opened daily. Forecast is for continued daily additions and perfect ski temperatures for the next week. Visibility, as usual, is iffy.

Got there early, and got to leave first tracks on one trail. (Can't see them, I know.)

The snow in my woods is now above my knees as I try to walk through it. We marked a tree for cutting for Christmas a few weeks ago and there is enough snow on the trees now that the tape wasn't visible, every tree now looks a different shape and the little openings in the woods look different as well. So it was a while before we found THE tree. I've been busy skiing, so it just got cut today and should be super fresh to last probably until ski season ends.

Missed a lot of days over Christmas, which is probably the best time to miss. Was back at it yesterday and today but feel like I'm starting from scratch. We're 100% open, but some runs still have brush and some stones. Yesterday was bright blue, today our more normal overcast. The snow surface is perfect on the runs I've been on. But I haven't been on much, still suffering early season legs.

There hasn't been much new snow since last Tuesday, just dustings. Consequently, although coverage is mostly good, the off piste looks pretty well hard hit, given most of the snow arrived prior to or during Christmas week.

It's been almost a week since I posted. Another 33 inches of snow. Which is great and all, but the visibility has been horrendous.

Snow or fog? Or both causing the bad visibility? I will never forget my first time at Big Mt...skied all day on the back side during an inversion...bright sun, blue sky ( hey, I'm from NY...never even heard of an inversion....) Went in for a hot chocolate, came out and you couldn't see your hand in front of your face....I freaked !!!
