Length of skis in your quiver

5'1" and 113.

My skis are 153, 154, 156, 157, and 159. The 159's (Atomic Elysians) are twin tips, which explains why I went a bit longer.

I skied last Friday on some Rossignol powder demo ski handed to me by the shop in anticipation of snow (that didn't come until 6 - 10 hours later). 161 length, 102 waist. They were beasts weight-wise, and hard to turn until someone told me how (on hardpack), but I didn't feel any issues with the length. More skis .......!

D'aww, 102 is adorable ;-)

Note: length *does* contribute to weight.

I'm curious - what was the advice for turning on hardpack?

Specific to my skiing (they've watched on Friday fun ski days) and those skis (did I say they weighed a ton?) to roll my ankles to get an edge and move somewhat on a diagonal to extra shift them through the turn; come somewhat to flat ski then do the same to turn in the other direction. Adding a consistent pole tick helped me keep the direction. I really had to keep my shins against the boot tongue to make sure I didn't get in the back seat. I'm a lazy skier on my little skis! I WAS grateful as the day went on and more snow came down. I found a few powder places on less used runs and the skis turned into a totally different animal!

These were so heavy I couldn't comfortable hoist them onto my shoulder. And you should see the bruise on one hand where I accidentally banged the ski on myself!

I'd say the weight was a heavier ski (only 8 cm longer, but 12 cm wider than my Wild Belles) and demo bindings.

Ummm...that is basically how you should be edging any ski. There are some other tricks. But the wider skis on hardpack will take a toll on your knees. It takes longer to get the ski at the edge angle you're used to at the narrower profile. But the action to get it there remains the same.

Demo bindings are heavy. That's all there is to it.

And my knees aren't all that friendly to start with!

I can't be sure, but it sounds like some of those instructions are generally applicable to improving your skiing on any ski. One thing I'm working on this season is ensuring that there is a moment of flat ski between turns.

Wider skis definitely put more pressure on your boots - I always notice it as a feeling that my boot is "sloppier" because small fit issues are exacerbated.

Note: 8cm longer - 12 MILLIMETERS wider, not centimeters. However, yes, width has a big impact on overall surface area, so it would on weight, too.

All my skis are now 175-183 (except my 155 slalom race skis). I do have Fischer and Volkl carvers in 168, but they've been replaced by my RTMs at 177.

5'8". Not posting my weight because I've stopped looking because I didn't like the numbers.

All my skis are roughly the same ACTUAL length, with markings between 167-170, with no regard to the numbers vs the length when stood next to each other. Initially with the early rise I thought I'd need to increase the length to compensate, but we have a lot of trees here and I'm more into turning than cruising these days. Speed is no longer my thing.
