I'm a little bummed the IKON went up but even so it still makes sense for us. Stratton is $185 on any given day, Killington around there so just need 4 to 5 days at those and it's more than paid for. We spend most of our time at Bromley and Magic so it's easy to get these 4 to 5 days. Plus I can add on the Killington spring pass for $199 so can use my 5 Killington/Pico days during the main season so it's a win win. Additional bonus is our ski club usually picks IKON trips so any trip we're interested in is covered so IKON makes the most sense for us.

The season after next we'll get killington passes and IKON as there's a 12 week Killington lesson program we want to take. I get my Magic and Bromley passes for since I work there so I have money to spend on other passes that make sense. If we get the Killington pass I might just do the 4 day IKON one which will cover the couple days we usually go to stratton plus we'll have a couple other days to use elsewhere.

Epic passes moved into the second stage. Price hasn't changed but only 2 Buddy Tickets after April 14.

Was there a restriction on the total number of days last year for the Epic Local at Vail, BC, W-B?

From Epic website as of April 15

Yep I got my Tahoe local pass today w 2 buddy passes. I haven’t used buddy passes in a while but you never know. Also bought Ikon base and was told over the phone I can upgrade at no additional cost (other than the difference) as long as before Dec 14. That way I can take my time deciding where to go.

This season was the first time I bought Epic and Ikon. Used Ikon at Alpine and Palisades 7 days plus Steamboat Diva West and leaving for Tahoe tomorrow to ski Palisades and Heavenly and then driving to Mammoth . This is a week long CA Divas trip! So both passes were worth it this year for in state and out of state trips!

The deadline for the lowest prices for Ikon is April 18, 2024. For families thinking about getting a Child's Ikon, the current discount is $100 per kid pass (limit 2).

Reminders are being sent to people who had the Mountain Collective Pass (MCP) in 2023-24 and haven't renewed yet for 2024-25. The price is $605, with a bonus day at one resort. The price will probably go up in late April or mid-May.

For people thinking about using the MCP for Diva West at Alta and Snowbird, can get 5 days included with an MCP by choosing either Alta or Snowbird for the bonus day. The MCP includes 2 days at Alta and 2 days at Snowbird. That means not skiing between the two via the gate near the top of the Alta Sugarloaf lift and the top of the Snowbird Baldy lift.

Snowbasin is also on the MCP.

If trip plans shift, it's possible to move the bonus day to another resort. I've done that a couple times via email.

One difference between Epic and Ikon, besides the obvious fact that they cover different resort lists, is that there are many more variations of Epic passes. Ikon has three versions: Full Ikon, Ikon Base Plus, and Ikon Base, plus the Ikon Session Pass (2-4 days). Epic has three versions of the Epic Day Pass (1-7 days), plus a long list of regional and 1-location passes in addition to Full Epic and Epic Local.

The names Epic Local and Tahoe Local are confusing. Anyone can buy one. Epic Local provides access to all Epic resorts but with holiday blackout dates and limited days for some major destination resorts in the USA as well as in Europe and Japan. Tahoe Local provides unlimited access for three resorts around Lake Tahoe and limited days for Epic resorts in Colorado and Utah (Park City).

Last season was the first time I got an Epic pass. Took a while to figure out in the spring which one made more sense. The only trip that was definite was to Crested Butte in March for 5-6 days of skiing. The simplest approach would've been a 5-day Epic Day Pass for about $70 per day. However, since I had the flexibility to add ski days in Colorado for a couple trips, I opted to pay another couple hundred dollars for Epic Local. While it wasn't the original plan when I bought Epic Local in May, I ended up skiing at Vail and Beaver Creek in December and Keystone and Breck in March, plus 5 days at CB. One way to think about it is that the additional 5 days cost about $50 per day. Overall, it was $68 per day.

Came across this detailed summary of all the Epic options that is a good introduction. It's one of many travel websites that offer the Epic pass.

Updated on March 14, 2024

Epic Local access details from Epic website for 2024-25, price notes as of April 2024:
The difference in price between Full Epic and Epic Local is about $250.
The difference in price between Epic Local and the Northeast Value Pass is $130.
The Northeast Value pass includes unlimited access for the VR resorts in the mid-Atlantic and midwest.
A Tahoe Local pass is about the same price as the Northeast Value pass.

Although it's not clear whether or not the Indy Pass will be available again for people on their Wait List for 2024-25, here are some references for people who don't know much about Indy. The top price for Indy with unlimited access (no blackout dates) was under $500 in early March, with Indy Base at $349 for new people. The target market is people who typically ski within a day's drive of home for under 6 days a season. The Indy provides 2 days at each location. In some regions there are 4-6 locations close enough for day trips or weekend trips. Overall the intent is to have 200 locations worldwide before the 2024-25 season begins.

I've had Indy before and renewed for 2024-25. My home mountain, Massanutten, was a founding member. Since I'm getting a Massanutten season pass, the Indy AddOn is $199 instead of $279 for a renewal. With the addition of Wisp and Wintergreen next season, that means there will be 7 alpine resorts in the southeast (TN, NC, VA, WV, MD) on Indy.

The deadline for the bonus day and the lowest price for the Mountain Collective Pass (MCP) is May 13. There is a countdown timer on the MCP home page. Price is $605. The $30 renewal discount is good until the MCP goes off sale, which will probably be by mid-December.

Need to make a quick pass decision. What was the Alta walk-up daily rate this past season?
It was around $180. That's based on what I was charged for using the MCP at 50% off for a few days in April.

If only going to Alta and don't have another reason to get Full Ikon, then the Gold Card for $99 is an option, which provides a 50% discount. Once the RFID card is set up at an Alta ticket window, it's direct-to-lift.

thank you @marzNC! I'm going to try to make it to Taos and Alta so I went with MCP. The Alta Gold card sounds like a great deal. Appears you can also get a discount for half-day or late afternoon only. I had never heard of it before... good to know!

Sounds like a plan! I like the MCP for the lower initial price and flexibility. Relatively easy to get to breakeven as long as you get to two resorts. Had one for a few seasons before Ikon came on the scene. The reason for the first trip to Taos was because they joined the MCP.

In April 2024, @TNtoTaos and JF used the Gold Card at Alta. That was a lot easier for JF than having someone help her use one of their Ikon F&F every morning. It works like a "convenience card" from Alta Lodge but obviously the 50% discount adds up over 5+ days. More flexible than the 10-day pre-paid card that's transferable, but has to be used during the same season.

Alta went to RFID way before most American ski resorts. Makes it a lot easier to do direct-to-lift alternatives to the traditional lift ticket.

The prices for the MCP went to $629 Adult 19+, $509 Teen (13-18), $229 Child as of May 14. Per usual, the bonus day at one resort is gone. The next price increase has been happening in early August.

The advantages of the MCP are lower initial cost and no blackout dates. It's relatively easy to get to breakeven as long as it's possible to get to two resorts. Since Alta, Snowbird, and Snowbasin are on the MCP, a trip to SLC staying in the city can work out decently. Even better if another short trip to another MCP resort happens too. One trip that includes skiing for 6+ days at one MCP resort of interest can a reason to consider the MCP over Ikon.

Crystal (Ikon) is advertising a $79 day pass midweek deal which would be a good thing, except that you have to pick your date and buy for that date now, in July. Is this what all Ikon resorts are doing?

As far as I can tell, there are more unique offers at Alterra resorts for the upcoming season. Just saw a 4-day pass for Schweitzer.

Ikon Partners like JHMR have had assorted deals but they are clearly independent offers.

The Ikon pass has added another Tahoe mountain. Sierra-at-Tahoe has joined Indy Pass for 2024-25.

Taos opted to be on Indy Base (5 days) again. Last season, TSV required Indy Base Plus or Full Indy (7 days).

You mean Sierra has joined Ikon, right? That's really cool news as I haven't skied there in years!
