I think it may well have been nicer yesterday as it was fresh wet snow at that point.... but I imagine it locked up overnight like cement drying. I think it was easier on a board than it would have been on skis, the slowness and softness helped my confidence so I actually rode on steeper slopes than usual! So weird when you think you are about to hit a death cookie and it just smushes up.
I definitely think its better on a board in those conditions also it might be better once its had some traffic on it. I've always found snow at this time of the season to be a bit hit and miss ..... usually a miss :laughter:

The most trafficked areas on Hutt (Morning Glory, Fascination, Broadway) were hideous yesterday. Sticky, bumpy, hard work...everyone was heading off the sides!

Argh it looks like rain is heading to Ruapehu though...I was hoping they would make to to late October.

What a roller coaster of a season its been .
You never know Ruapehu might make it .... fingers crossed.
I'm still hoping for a Hutt day once this weather calms down.
Hubby just got home from Mt Olympus and yes it was hideous snow today so don't believe all the social media :laughter:
He only got 2 runs in then spent the rest of the time socialising but he did get an amazing lunch !!
Another friend was part of the frenzy at Broken River and same situation there.
Heaps of roller balling as well which did eventually turn into a few slides in some spots.
Here's a couple of pics from the drive to Mt O ..... looks can be very deceiving :laughter:

That does look amazing, shame it didn't ski well.

Mt Hutt today after another 7cms overnight ( on top of the 45 from the previous night) and actually I really enjoyed it... although it snowed pretty much the whole day and we gave up about 1 after starting at 8am.. and especially after getting up very early due to daylight saving starting, ugh!
My first real powder day and while not actually snowing all day would have been great, I still enjoyed it. First tracks really was first tracks and it was sooo much fun tracking through the new stuff. At that stage I could see the snow but it really set in by about 10am.
I decided to buy my partner's C6 Apollo's and they were perfect for these conditions... actually good for most conditions but they really helped me today. Gave me a lot of confidence in the less than ideal weather and I was even contemplating doing fascination today ( and THAT is huge for me!) but the low Vis put me off, even though the snow probably would have helped me out a lot.

Oh and I just have to have plug for a company, dope snow... omg! I bought a jacket from them on Tuesday thinking I wouldn't wear it this season but it arrived on Saturday... Sweden to rural new Zealand in 4 days! Just wow and I really love this jacket, it fits me really well and I LOVE the colour! I have big problems finding something to fit my ample behind and their website sizing was bang on. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!received_976547433424453.jpeg

Same at Mt Hutt on Saturday. I had a quick foray off to the side of Fascination, worked out I was heading for a worse back injury (had just tweaked it again on Friday), and stuck to the groomers for the rest of the morning, which were actually great.
A lot of skiers and boarders were persevering with the off piste all morning, but most either couldn't turn, or they were in a very aft position, and everywhere you looked there were people sitting or lying in the snow.
Great cover though, should last through to closing!

I reckon it should be good for the next couple of weeks, yay!
I'm kind of hoping I can get my partner to take his birthday off and we take the kids to Mt Hutt, given that it's school holidays.. although it will be an expensive and probably busy day as I will need to get day passes and gear for them, but they missed the last couple of days at porters so I have a wee bit in left in the money jar. Fingers crossed he can talk his boss around!

You poor thing re the back, I've spent all winter struggling with mine, tweaked it right at the beginning and it's just coming right now .... as if having to deal with my knees wasnt enough !!!!
Have to say I did see some insta shots of people riding and skiing at Hutt on Sat and most of them looked like they were having a hard time :yardsale:
I imagine it will groom up ok and once the off piste has gone through a few melt freeze cycles it will come right ..... dreaming of bluebird corn skiing days :ski:

Ahhh poor hubby.... I hear it can be really bad at times! Lol

And my partner actually had four pairs of C6 at the beginning of the season but sold an older pair he didn't use at all and then found he hadn't used the Apollo's this season either. They fit me really well, even though they are 170cm which is 10cm longer than my ones I had been using but really 170 is probably a better size for me now (@5ft 7) and as I'm improving my skills a fair bit.

And now he has his eye on the new C6's ( zephyrs, he demoed at Dobson)...and he still has 2 pairs of C6's
And he's a Good fella!

And really he has still got about 7 sets of skis, surely that's enough :laughter:

:becky:Oh damn, they have that color in pants.
Yes they do :becky: and also in thermal top, which I did buy as well .. figured the pants as well might be a bit too much, and I didn't have an excuse to buy new pants as I had got some new bib pants earlier this season ...
I know... really I should just have got the lot!

I can’t find anywhere on their website (yet) that tells me how long the pants are. Any clues? I'm tall, so it matters a lot.

Off topic sorry, just had to ask what the quality is like? my son likes that slouchy look that they do and they're pretty cheap by skiwear standards, but if they'll fall to bits it's a false economy. Are you happy with the materials and construction etc?

So far yes the quality seems good, although it's only been one day on the slopes so far. I like all the thought that has gone into the design, pockets and zips in the right places, i like the fact that the chin bit doesn't rub my face when zipped up and it felt warm yesterday with the snow falling and I only had a thermal underneath.
Will see how it goes after a couple more days, although I may only have that left in the season here.

My brother has a jacket from dope snow which he bought for the 2021 season. This has stood up to 10-15 days use per season, his partner has bib pants. They don't tend to ride as hard as I ski, so I have steered clear because I tend to be more demanding on my gear.

My understanding from @Analisa is that they are probably equivalent to aliexpress snow brands like gsou snow, just with glossier marketing - so there is a lack of quality control / warranty / commitment to ethical or environmentally sound manufacturing processes.
