Mane management... do you do anything special?

In my flying sports, I prefer to keep my hair tucked away to avoid tangles... but out in the snow, I really prefer to have it down to help keep me warm... unfortunately, the back of my hair just comes out at the end of the day completely tangled... I suspect from rubbing along my high collar or scarves maybe?... Besides braiding it... any suggestions? Or is it just me?

I personally split mine into two pigtails and let em hang outside of the jacket. Works out pretty well. Two braids outside of the jacket is the most protection, but more work than I want to put in, so pigtails it is.

For my hair, problems come from rubbing up against things and/or too much heat, so if I let them fly in the air, but tie them at a point where they aren't in my face, it works for me.

hmpfff....

I like easy... always works for me.

I always see these chicks with their lovely flowing hair and wonder... how in the heck do they keep it from tangling? Still a mystery!

I do exactly what num does: split into 2 pig tails (sometimes I braid those, too).

My hair is really thick and curly, so I will sometimes straighten it to help keep it manageable.

I found that if I wore my hair down, pieces would wind up in my mouth and gaiter. Last season I started wearing two pig tails and that worked perfectly! I think my daughters think it looks wierd but it works for me and I don't seem to get as bad "helmet hair" with pig tails.

I do one pony tail down low in the back. Since I wear a helmet and usually a balaclava, this keeps my hair from migrating up into my face.

I do a pony tail, too. Keeps my hair out of my face. I also like to have it sticking out between my helmet and my gaiter, just so people can tell I'm a girl. :D

Usually braids. If it's really cold, I do leave it down. Dealing with the tangles is worth the extra warmth.

My hair tangles no matter what I do. I just jump in the shower with the bottle of conditioner to get them out, its a way of life. We'll see if I end up braiding or just leaving it down. This is my first season with long hair, so... I have no idea!

This is a real issue for me currently. I've been braiding in pigtails thus far this season which I like except that my right braid keeps getting caught in the velcro of my jacket. Part of me wants to cut it off to an angled bob just below chin length but then I won't be able to put it up for spinning and running. I may just go back to one braid in back. We'll see.

Adorable haircut. That's what I had last season, and what I have been wanting to do again. But I've been telling myself that I look like a girl when I ski, if I have hair that actually sticks out of my helmet. So... no short haircut.

From the pics I've seen, I think that would be very flattering. You could always wear a wide headband for spinning and running to keep it away from your face....

For years I always wore my hair in a braid. Somewhat of a trademark for me.

About 3 weeks ago I cut off 10 1/2 inches and it is now short!! No more braid for me!

2 braids under each ear, I like to put some sort of smoothing product in it before braiding, it helps stop it tangling, protects it and leaves it soft and shiny when I wash it out at the end of the day.

Wow, K! Lookin' good! Did you donate it to Locks of Love? I did this 2 years ago, only 10" though  Let it grow again then cut again, just a tad longer than yours. No more p-tails for me, either! No more tangles! Well, it's a rather extreme solution, but....works!

Geez, I don't even need to be skiing for my hair to get massively tangled...it just seems to happen all the time. So when I ski, I also wear a low ponytail...seems to work the best for me.

Lots and LOTS of great replys! Thanks ladies!
I too am trying to grow out a donation for Locks and am getting close, which is why I don't want to chop it off quite yet. But I'm glad to know my tangles are not alone out there in the ski world!! Previously I hadn't been using a helmet because I was letting my daughter use it as she was learning, but she's fully geared up now so I can have my helmet back... perhaps I'll try the single low braid this season since my helmet should keep my ears plenty warm.

Chop it off and go spikey--that way nobody can ever tell if it's messed up!

I like that!

I'm a girl with constantly changing hair. I've had it as short as QQs (possibly shorter... it was about 1.5" long). Then I let it grow out during my pregnancy with my daughter. Didn't cut it til she was 7 months old and at that point, I had enough to donate for Locks of Love (no haircuts in 1.5 years). Most of the time, though, it's some variation of mid-length. I got it cut right before the Mother's Day A-basin Diva gathering, but it hasn't been cut since. Need to fix the cut (it was angled so the front was longer than the back, like Robyn was talking about) because it doesn't look quite right now that it's about 3-4 inches longer than the original cut. Then I'll grow it out again...

And when it's long, I like to ski with 2 braids. Keeps the hair out of my face but this way it doesn't get tangled as much.
