When to take kids' to new mountains?

Although we live far from snow, :( , all of our family ski trips have been at the same mountain. There is a great ski school, and we have found the most incredible instructors for 2 of our 3 children (the other one is transitioning to "big kid" ski school this year). The ski school has been very accommodating when we have requested a particular instructor for the kids' ski weeks.

Is there a particular age or skill level that is particularly good for kids to reach before taking them to ski at different mountains? Our oldest (now 9) pretty much needs to go to ski school because he wants to ski harder terrain than his dad or I can, and his younger sisters (7 and 4) need ski school because they are still learning. I hate to mess with their learning processes and confidence but, at the same time, would like to expand our horizons in the not-so-distant future. Any thoughts or experiences to share?

Depends on their personalities some. But mostly if you tell them ahead of time & maybe check out the webpages or brochures together so they kind of know what to expect for the "adventure" they can adapt pretty well. You could take several trips ? maybe ? Go to the old place & adventure to a new place also.

Something our family has done on trips like yours is we will ski one day at a different mountain that is within an hour drive from our "home" location. It gives us a chance to test out a new mountain to see if we like it. About 90% of the time we are glad we ventured out and tried something new.
