❄️⛷️Powpow day at brighton. Yummy silky ❄️. 27F in the parking lot. 4" overnight. Wind blowing up top so the chairs had to run slow & Western peaks was closed. Big flakes all morning probably another couple inches. The ice was covered & the snow packed down by 3p. Tree skiing was phenomenal.

Back to spring skiing today, April 7. Meant Mineral Basin was good by 10:30am.

With the tram unavailable to replace the cabins, the Summit lodge is also closed. The tram is used to transport staff and supplies for the food service.

It's going to be quite warm today at Alta. Already in the 30s as of 7am MT. But winter is coming back to LCC/BCC starting Monday evening, April 11. :snow:

The Albion double is the last of the old lifts at Alta. It hasn't been run much in recent years. With the replacement of the Sunnyside triple with a detachable quad this summer, Albion will be retired completely. April 12 will be a powder day for the send off.

ALBION LIFT WILL SPIN FOR THE FINAL TIME ON APRIL 12TH, 2022.

We will be operating the Albion lift one last time for the public on April 12th, 2022 from 10am–2pm. Take twenty 15-20 minutes out of your Tuesday to ride the Albion lift for one final time.
After 60 years of service, the Albion lift will be retired and replaced at the end of the 2021-22 season. It's been a great ride.

Could easily tell when the wind shifted this afternoon. Even though the sun peaked through, it was noticeably cooler. By 4pm on the Collins side, the snow was setting up fast as the temperature started to dive.

Winter is back at Alta!

The groomers were done with the Wildcat base about 7am MT on April 10. Far different timing than the last few warm mornings.

Started snowing at dinner time at Alta. Official tally as of 9pm was 6 inches at mid-mountain. :snow:

Temperatures dropped about 10 degrees between 6pm and 9pm. Winds about 20 mph on the Top of Collins and 10 mph at the base. Winds were swirling quite a bit.

Fair to say that the storm that started on April 11 delivered and isn't anywhere near finished yet. Total so far at Alta is 11 inches. Hope there isn't any thunder snow that will require lift closures until after 3:30pm or so.

Alta Ski Patrol was out early doing their work. Can hear the blasting going on at 7am from my room.

Whether or not Snowbird actually got 3 inches more snow than Alta in the last 24 hours is debatable. The OpenSnow forecasts are derived from OpenSnow weather modeling. The official reports come from resort websites. Resorts are not consistent about how, when, and where snow totals come from.

Learned a little more about the Bonus long weekend at Alta April 22-24. Like neighboring Snowbird, not all the lifts will operate during late, late season. For Alta, the lifts that will run for sure after April 17 are Sunnyside, Sugarloaf, and Collins. Supreme will definitely not operate after today. Wildcat probably won't.

When Supreme was a triple that didn't start at Alf's, it used to close a week before the Closing Day.

Pretty nice day for the party closing day at Alta. The Wildcat parking lot was almost full by 9:30. No one is allowed to park before 8:00. A few cars that stopped too far down the access road before 8:00 were told to move. They parked on the road until the line died down and then headed to the parking lot. That didn't really take that long. Most cars showed up after 8:30. Many people started partying first and didn't bother to start skiing until after 10:00. Even with 4-5 inches of new snow since lifts closed the afternoon before.

The Alta website provided a Top Ten list for spring skiing in April and the final weekends that's a good reflection of the Alta vibe.

5 inches of new snow so far at Alta as of 2pm on April 22. As I remember, the Base Depth got up to 113 inches after the April 11-13 snowstorm. The High T is the only gated terrain open. Storm total forecast by NOAA is 10-20 inches.

I was up at Brighton and lapped Wren Hollow a few times this afternoon. There wasn't a lot of new snow yet, but what was there was nice.

Notice anything missing? No people! It was like having the mountain to myself. I left right when the snow started really coming down. There were a lot of folks showing up as I was leaving.
