Yeah it was freezing up top, but once we got moving it wasn't bad since there were enough quick sprint climbs to warm us up... route-finding on The Ribbon with 25 feet of visibility was interesting to say the least... I was thankful for hydraulic brakes when I'd "discover" the edge of the granite slab, i.e the 50ft+ cliffs.

I bought a freeride bike last saturday ... its a Specialized SX Trail II from 2008. Why a freeride bike and not a DH bike?
Did the Runca trail twice this year. Once with my XC bike and once with a rented DH bike. With the XC bike it was very difficult as the lack of suspension travel was a big problem. The most difficult parts ... I had to walk them down. With the DH bike you just ride over everything (rocks roots etc) but a DH bike does not turn as well as a XC in the most technical sections. So the SX Trail II does everything well ... enough suspension travel, turns easily, and you can even ride uphill with it! :becky:

Sorry for the low quality pic from my mobile ...

I certainly didn't have fun this weekend, but I did spend time in the saddle.

Last winter a friend challenged me to race against her in the biggest single-day, point-to-point mountain bike race in the US, the Iceman Cometh Mountain Bike Challenge. It's held the first Saturday in November and this year was the 22nd year. It consists of a mix of dirt roads, fire roads, two-tracks and single track and has grown from the original 27 miles to 30.3 (46 km) this year. The terrain is mostly sand and very hilly.

Given the foot problems I've been battling with the last 2 years (right foot neuroma and corrective surgery and a badly bruised left heel resulting in plantar fasciitis) and the complete lack of training this summer (was shooting for 1,000 miles on the bike but ended up with only 400), I was thrilled to 1) finish still standing up, 2) beat my buddy by about 15-20 minutes, and 3) not be DFL.

Here's my favorite pics from the day:

Congrats on Iceman! I was there, did my 9th Iceman. Told my husband, who started a couple heats in front of me, that all I wanted at the finish line was to have him there with a big smile telling me "now it's time to go skiing!" Will be flying to Utah 11/16 for opening day on the 18th.
