Norquay a fun, often overlooked mountain !
You're talking about Timberline in Oregon, correct?Timberline opened on Friday and then closed again on Sunday. There were so many bald spots. I definitely hit some rocks. I am surprised they opened at all.
Yes, Oregon Timberline. Skiing there this weekend reminded me of skiing on Mount Lemmon near Tucson. They get excited about an inch of snow too! LolYou're talking about Timberline in Oregon, correct?
Being in the southeast, I pay attention to Timberline in West Virginia. They get excited when there is an inch of snow, which already happened. Opening day is set for Nov. 23.
I don’t think I used my five trips to Killington last year. But I certainly wouldn’t use one for the opening day!It does at least include Ikon passholders, though I don’t know that people want to waste days that early if they want to ski Killington more during the season.
Same! I especially have no desire to deal with the stairs there. LolI don’t think I used my five trips to Killington last year. But I certainly wouldn’t use one for the opening day!

The 2022-23 New England ski season starts now. Do we need to say anything else? The Locke Triple will begin spinning at 9:00 AM for New England Pass, Ikon Pass, and Ticket Pack holders. Daily lift ticket access will begin Saturday, November 19 at 8:00 AM. Downloading will be required, but hey, you don't have to walk. Last chair will be thrown at 3:15PM, so be sure to get here early enough to get your first turns of the season in.
Some general notes to keep in mind before heading out for your first turns of the season. Pre-season conditions will exist. Please ski in control, and be aware of changing terrain. Snowmaking operations will be ongoing throughout the day on T2 and Sunday Punch. A buff or something of the sort is perfect for wiping off the goggles! At this time, there is no beginner terrain available on the mountain. In addition to this, due to limited terrain availability, no uphill traffic is permitted at this time. Our team is working exceptionally hard to take advantage of the prolonged cold and open additional terrain as fast as possible.
In some ways it's a reward for season passholders. Just as staying open an extra week or weekend during late season is mostly for pass holders. People paying for day tickets aren't as likely to make the effort. Although if early season day tickets are discounted enough, that can be enough to get someone to check out a local mountain. If the opening day is a little before a deadline for buying a season pass, that early opening could result in a new pass holder. In any case it's limited terrain, mostly lower mountain green, that's opening. Snowmaking is still a relatively new thing here and they put some around the base; I've wondered about the economics of that. Is there payoff in attracting families to the shorter green runs? I guess there must be.
