I'm such a Jacket Slut!

I have a disgusting amount of ski (and snowboard stuff), due to my inability to resist bargains. Way too may jackets of every different level of warmth, as well as about 4 different ski pants, tons of thermals of every possible weight, many gloves & mittens, you name it! (I won't even get into how many pairs of skis I have). The reason for this is I worked as a Mtn Ambassador at Killington for years, and besides the discounts I would get, just being up there all the time, and in late season virtually everything goes for 50% off. Also, with the range of temps we would get, you needed a decent variety of stuff. In UT the temps and weather may not be as extreme.

Going into this season, I can honestly say I don't need one thing! So although I should probably avoid it, what is SAC?

you know, I have a ton of stuff too. But it's not my inability to resist bargains that keeps my closets full, rather it's my inability to maintain my weight at any given point for more than a week!

I have jackets and pants in every size known to (wo)man. This year I've added a pair of North Face pants to go with last year's Columbia parka. They have velcro tabs at the waist so maybe I can get more than one season out of them?? (that means I'm gonna lose so much weight I'll have to cinch them in! HAHAHA)

ok, never mind. Just ramblin away......

leaking feathers

That cracks me up! I think I'm almost the opposite of you "j-sluts" in that I keep old stuff (but I'm getting better). For many years I had my dad's OLD big down jacket that I would wear over my jacket on really freezing days...his jacket was super warm although it too was leaking feathers, but a bit of duct tape fixed that right up! (Same for dad's old gloves.)

You're not alone. I keep my stuff for years as long as it's still in good condition. I'm a real creature of habit and use the same stuff even though I have others. It seems that I'm more likely to forget something when I start mixing up my wardrobe. It's easier to just scoop up the same stuff the next time.

I liked that one too! Another pretty jacket and at such a good price...
No idea how I managed to resist it, maybe there's hope fo rme yet. Right now I am trying to resist buying any single item of ski gear until I am actually skiing. It's an arbitrary decision, but I do need to have a cheap month, I'm paying for my season pass this week and a club membership - so I am adding to my ski gear, but they are intangible and somehow not as rewarding (yet ........!!!).

I love that we all share the same addictions, I feel more "normal". I did have an idea for a business venture - online shopping for women who need constant instant gratification. After the frenzied clicking/purchase, nothing is billed/shipped for 3 days, then you get an email asking if you still want it, does the color really go with the rest of your items, can you tell your mother/SO/DH about your purchase without feeling shame, is today less stressful and your need for retail therapy has passed? I know we always have the option of returns if we were a bit hasty, but honestly, when was the last time you actually did that just because you really didn't need another pair of goggles at only $25? We only return the expensive items or the ones that are really unwearable

I haven't got to the bit where I work out how you make money from this idea yet!!! Maybe there's a club membership fee to have the rreassuring voice of reason protect you from yourself. Heaven knows - you never hear it on this site LOL!! We can only offer carrots.

Seriously? Us two? We need a third ........

For the past 5 years I've owned one ski jacket and one pair of ski pants, one pair of goggles, one pair of skis. Then I got introduced to this forum, who showed me where SteepandCheap is. I have lost all control.

Y'all are cracking me up. I can give you the antidote to the issue though. Just make so little money that if you shop that way you're living in your car...

On the other hand, I think I've decided what outfit I want this year.

Love that outfit, Robyn. In your avatar photo you look just like the model wearing the jacket.

I'm also having a tough time with both SAC and Tramdock, I got to the stage this morning that I started buying stuff for my husband, luckily by the time I got my credit card info out the size I needed was gone.

I love LillaBear's idea for the "cooling off period" after ordering, I'm sure that would save me a heap of money. May not be such a commercial success but the husbands would love it. Maybe they could pay a percentage fee on each item their partner decides not to buy. :eyebrows:

Nice choices, Robyn! That'll look fantastic on you! :D

Wish I had more color... ended up with all black this year. Though at least the lightweight softshell is a beautiful green.
