Getting in shape for ski season

Wow, I didn't know this, either! Here I've been spending a lot of time on my quads, but not so much on my hamstrings. I'm definitely going to change things around.

Lean against a wall. Slide your back down it until you are in a sitting position. Quads parallel with the floor, angle at the knee 90 degrees. Hold until you are ready to DIE. Slide back up. Repeat.

This is easier to do if you have an excercise ball behind your back

Right, I forgot to say that, because your back just won't slide up and down easily. I've used tennis balls, too, stuck in a sock.

I've been walking a few (4 to 6) miles a day, though lately this has tapered off. I had minor foot surgery on Aug. 30th then I went back to work. I've also started to do relaxation exercises and visualization exercises. I am hoping to be able to put mind over matter and hit some bumps this season.

Well I've been doing the Curves Circuit. But there is not enough cardio. So its the stationary bike in bad weather, or inline skating in good. Also hubby and I have sea-doo's for the summer. Wave jumping in Lake Ontario with 4-6 ft waves really works on the legs and core, as well as the balance factor. It's like skiing a really good mogul run. You keep looking for the next great take-off wave.

So what' this "sea-doos" all about? I have not a clue. Sounds interesting. Also sounds like it requires a boat and a lake. Am I close?

You can make the wall sits even better if you slide up an inch and down an inch, rather than holding them in a static position. Many ski instructors don't like the ttraditional wall sit, because it encourages staic skiing. However, if you tweak it a bit with small movements, it's an awesome exercise.

Using the ball is great. Also, if you have dyna discs, you can put them under your feet and practice "edging" while you are in the squat position.

Lisamarie - that sound neat, got to try it. liquidfeet - sea-doo is a trademark for personal watercraft. So I've 135 hp machine that weights 780 lbs and is only 96" long. They are the summer equalivant of a snowmobile. Lots of fun for the summer. The group we go sea-dooing with are mostly our ski buddies too. So it keeps everyone together for both seasons.
