Can you use anything as a fabric softener?

I'm really getting to not like the static. What can you use safely on wicking/outdoor fabrics?

So far as I know, fabric softener is a no-no with outdoor/wicking fabrics. It messes with their absorption/repelling properties.

That said, I don't use fabric softener ever. I do put some white vinegar in the rinse cycle for my clothes to naturally soften them, but I have not tried it on tech fabrics. It may be okay; I know you can use vinegar in the rinse for cloth diapers and the rules for washing them are pretty close to tech fabrics since the PUL is like your Gore-tex type stuff and there is fleece involved, too. But don't quote me on that.

I use vinegar on my tech fabrics, and have not noticed any problems with wicking. It doesn't work quite as well as a fabric softener would for static, but it does help a little, at least!

That is what I do too.

Thanks girls. Maybe I'll at least try it on the outermost layers.
