Today when I was skiing I saw one of the strangest, most amazing things I've ever seen in the daylight sky. First, some background: it was very, very cold and though the sun was out, there was a low lying haze that sparkled when the sun hit it. Every now and then this would clear and you could get a glimpse of some blue sky overhead. I was skiing down the slope, looked up, and there was the sun, about 40 degrees above the horizon, completely encircled by a rainbow! I'd never seen anything like it before. It was incredible! Not a close-in rainbow, like a halo. This was a great, big circle. I wished I had my camera, but of course, I didn't.
Anyone else seen this, or any other amazing atmospheric occurrences, while they were skiing?
