Question: Advice needed from armor wearers!

I just got the 2 strap model of Fox knee/shin pads and am wondering what's the bast way to strap them on to avoid slippage while pedaling. Straight around, or criss-cross? What's your experiences??

ps...if it matters, I have very large calves.

I have the Fox Launch guards and the straps are cris-crossed but it's not possible to hook them any other way. They do seem to work nicely that way though...

I keep mine criss-crossed over my fairly large calves, they barely fit that way but they stay up.
