Why do people take their dogs skiing?

^^That's the best thing about spring skiing for me, it's dog skiing time! My dog loves snow more than anything, especially the super deep stuff. He actually knows what my AT gear looks like and gets super excited when I take it out. In fact, when I come home after a powder day I think I detect a little jealousy in his eyes. I took this video of him after the mtn closed a few years back, unfortunately he probably won't be getting any days like that this spring:

I don't get it! There's nothing in it for the dog... it's not like someone would just pop by the resort on the way back from walking the dog like they would if they were going shopping, they must have made a conscious decision to take it with them. Does anyone here do this? And if so, WHY?
I take my dog with me all the time. She loves it as soon as she sees us putting things in our ski bags she waits at the door and then the back of the car once she gets let out. What's in it for her? A ride in the car, 3 short walks, a good sunbath and companionship throughout the day. She also loves people and snow. On the other hand I could leave her home to sleep all day and not get let out for an extended period of time.

We are in Mammoth right now and staying in a "hospitality lodge" which means you do your own cleaning. That works for us because we can leave the dog inside while we ski. She is a beach dog! Even though she is a german shepherd who goes to the local mountains every weekend all winter, when she sees the white stuff, she backs up to return inside. However, if we use the "walk" word she's suddenly up for whatever the weather is throwing our way. All that said, we take her with us whenever possible while traveling. She is much happier than staying with relatives or friends while we are away.

I don't do a lot of non-resort skiing, but last September I did take my dog skiing with me. As you can see, the snow was marvelous. ;-) He had a great day, I would like to take him again. He isn't totally reliable off leash, though, unfortunately.
