Turkey Day Trip?

Greeley

Hey Colorado Divas... Who would have the best early season conditions over Turkey day weekend? Beaver Creek or Breckenridge? I have 2 rooms booked 1 in Frisco & 1 in Avon, and need to cancel one of them. I'm thinking that Beaver Creek would be less crowded, but will they have as much terrain open?

I think it's a toss up. Breckenridge opens up earlier than Beaver Creek, but it's all about how much snow drops as to how much terrain opens up. Even though Breckenridge and Beaver Creek are both front range resorts, they don't necessarily have the same weather - snow fall. Breckenridge would probably have more of a crowd than Beaver Creek - that's always the case no matter what time of the season. Beaver Creek is more expensive than Breckenridge, but you get what you pay for and Beaver Creek is a stunning resort with first-class amenities. Breckenridge is more affordable.

Cost will be the same for either resort, we have the Epic pass this winter. So the only 'real' cost is lodging & gas.

I would keep the room in Frisco and ski both! The drive is not that bad from Frisco to Avon. (Sometimes it can be worse going to Breck.) Frisco is a very charming town with many good places to eat and is more affordable than Avon IMO.

+1 on Katy's recommendation.

Beaver Creek is lower elevation and faces west so it's probable that Breck will have more open. From Frisco you also have Keystone and A-Basin. A-Basin is open from top to bottom and looks like they are getting close to opening another lift.

Copper is opening the Flyer lift on Friday. Hopefully Keystone will open Montezuma lift soon. Don't know about Breck. Another storm is predicted for this weekend.

We are going back out Thanksgiving weekend, ski'd Loveland Nov 1st and it was pretty good. We might ski Eldora since we are staying with our daughter in Boulder and have never been there. Is it too early to ski Eldora that weekend? Maybe back to Loveland since we bought a 4 pack or thinking of trying A basin since we have never been there.

We decided to take a chance and stay in Avon to ski at Beaver Creek. It is a lot less driving around while we are there since we are spending 12 hours in a car each way for 4 days of skiing.
How are the conditions in CO? There hasn't been much natural snow yet... But I know most resorts are pretty good with the snowmaking these days. It has been about 10 years since we have taken a trip this early.

Vail has 1 run open, Beaver Creek opens Wed. The storm last night dropped about 4" at Copper. Don't think Vail got anymore.

Copper conditions were good but only 2 main runs open and not overly crowded. I imagine that will change later this week.

The resorts are pretty good at snowmaking but it only exists on a few runs.

The runs that have coverage are in good shape, no rocks, but a lot more snow is needed to open more terrain.

Copper was insanely crowded on Saturday. I had multiple people nearly take me out and saw so many near collisions it was unreal. Snow conditions were good for the most part but I won't be going back up until December.

This morning Vail reported 3 runs open. Very slight chance of snow this weekend.

I'm with Robyn, no holiday skiing, today's my last day until next week.

Greeley.. Beaver Creek is opening up tomorrow. I would check the report to see what they will have open. From the pictures on their website they have been making snow. Im sure whatever Beaver Creek ends up having open will be nice as far as early season conditions. They do a wonderful job grooming. I have never had a bad day there.

Dont forget to hit up the fresh baked cookies at 4pm!
