Lost NH ski area reclaimed!

When my husband was discussing the kids' and my new ski obsession at the office, somebody there mentioned "Moose Mountain" as being in the paper, and it sounded close to us. The only info I could find on the web was about the history of Moose Mountain as a lost ski area that closed in the late 80's:

https://www.nelsap.org/nh/moosemt.html

Apparently, though, last summer was spent clearing old grown-over trails and some snowmobilers were able to use the park this past season. Now the new owners of Moose Mountain have a website of their own:

https://www.moosemountainrecreation.com/home.html

and will open next season to tubing and snowboarding first. Right now Southeastern NH is served mainly by Gunstock, so Moose Mountain will be a welcome addition for those along the Portsmouth-Rochester-Ossipee corridor.

I hope they have a profitable season this year and that there is lots and lots and lots of snow to help them get started!

This is great! You rarely hear of an old, closed area making a comeback, even if it's just for tubing and snowboarding; all too often you hear about areas closing down, instead.

There used to be dozens of smaller, local hills like this throughout New England. I wish more of them would come back.

I know they plan on doing skiing, but I don't know if they'll be ready this season or not. How much work and $$$ must it be to clear old trails, install new ski lifts, etc? What a job. Would you invest in snow-making equipment and infrastructure this early, or would you wait for funds to come in? Too many big decisions. Even though we're new skiers, I have gotten the impression that it's more common for ski slopes to be in trouble and close down rather than open up. I hope the communities around here embrace it and keep it open.

This is great news, indeed!
Too many "lost" ski areas....:(
(I'm wondering what will be Magic Mountain's fate?)
"Feeder"/smaller ski hills have such a difficult time of it now with energy/snowmaking/insurance costs. We have 3 in this region, although the future of one is now jeopardized due to the closure of the paper mill that had been responsible for providing electricity to it. Hopefully, the one remaining paper mill up river will be able to help.
