Now that we finally have snow in the northeast, I d like to start doing weekly day trips from Westchester. (HT to MarzNC for her life changing advice that you don’t need a big trip out west to work on technique—all you need is a hill and a good instructor!) Looking at catamount, butternut, Mohawk mountain. Mt southington, and similar places, not more than two hours from me. If anyone has an instructor they can recommend at any of these, I d love to hear about it! TIA

Jeff Kenton at Hunter Mountain taught me to ski when I was learning and he is great! He will build confidence in all conditions and different terrain, and teach many different techniques (side slipping, pivot slips, flat vs. carved turns, how to stay in control on ice, upper/lower separation, skiing mainly with feet (not upper body)). He is the director of skiing instruction at my club (OC ski club out of Albany).

Thanks MarzNC, you are a source of great knowledge as always!

NY Snowflake, what is the OC Ski Club? I'm not that far from Albany. Hopefully I can find someone teaching someplace other than Hunter, I have IKON and Indy but not Epic, and Hunter isn't the kind of experience I want to pay extra for!

Here’s some info on the OC Ski Club and lessons. You can check the day trip schedule to see if anything interests you!
