Do you wear makeup when you ski?

I mean what's the difference? With my goggles and gaiter on, who can tell WHAT I look like? All the same, some mornings I put on blush and lipstick so I don't scare anyone in the lodge, when I'm putting on my boots.

I don't wear makeup at all. I own some makeup, and I think its around here somewhere, but it's been so long since I've cared to take the time, time I could spend on the slopes, time on my mt bike, time with my husband, or my flower bed.

But on that note, I have a story and a question.
A few years ago, my husband and I happened to run into some people we are aquainted with, while we were skiing. Naturally the guys just assumed that they'd go off and ski while the ladies went their way.(sidenote: I made it clear that this would NOT happen again)
Mrs aquaintance, was wearing makeup that appeared to have been put on with a trowel. When it started to snow, the snow melted on her face and left streaks of makup running down her face.

Omigosh that's funny and awful at the same time.

I don't know if you say something or not -- I know if it happened to me (which it wouldn't) I'd want to know. But I don't know if I could say anything. Maybe it depends on how well we got along. If I really didn't like her, I'd probably be evil and not say anything. If I did, well, maybe I'd suggest a bathroom break; that way she could see for herself in the mirror.

Well.........
I am not a catty person, but I have a great sense of humor.
BTW-I said nothing!
Good thing it was night skiing:cool:
Clarification:
Mrs Aquaintance was a woman with whom I never spent time socially(different circles, you know what I mean). She was more interested in going to the lounge to have a drink and look "pretty".
Mr Aquaintance is a man my husband spends time with regularly. Very good skier!
I was better suited to stick with the guys to ski while Mrs A went to the lodge.

My biggest regret in this situation...........No pics:D

I must be catty. I wouldn't have said anything either.

I feel a bit embarrassed to admit, but I always put some brown eyeliner and fill in the missing eyebrow spots. A moisturizer with at least spf30, more out west. I never, never put on mascara. Thats a recipe for raccoon eyes.

Hey, if it makes you feel better, and you think you look better, go for it.

(Sometimes I wear some, too.)

I never wear makeup. After a day wearing my ski mask my face is slathered with moisture, so I wash that off. Otherwise I look up to the hair, not to the face, in dismay at the end of the day. Think I'll start a thread on HELMET HAIR.

I put on a little bit of eyeliner - otherwise my eyes sink into my face. I also use moisturizer with sunscreen. Nothing else.

I just wear SPF 45 (fair skin) and use chapstick.

Honestly, between the hair and the face I feel very frumpy in the lodge. On the slopes, not so much.

Tinted Burt's Bees is my best friend. I have a hard enough time with makeup when I'm not doing something athletic.

I used to wear makeup in the 80's. But I remember seeing a lady just like SnowHot describes and changed things fast. Now its just sunscreen/moisturizer and lip balm. I usually get a free lip balm at the ski show or from my Avon lady.Apres ski I might add mascara and liner to look alive.

My stepsister is a Vail local, she gets up in the morning, washes her hair, applies a light makeup, blowdrys her long blonde mane. She puts on her lacy underwear under her ski suit, pulls a hat over her coiffure, picks up her pocket rockets then goes out and rips up every inch of the mountain, leaving most men in her wake.

Now that is what I call a true ski diva!!

I wear some makeup when I ski, nothing heavy, all waterproof. I just look and feel better with it.

And I wear make up to some degree every day. I went natural for many years which was fine, and really only started wearing make up in my 40s. Honestly, I look much better with it as most of us do, especially as we age, and I have a lot of fun with it. There are days when after I'm done applying I just grin and thank the make-up gods!

I just found a great Smashbox lipstick that is a natural pink lip gloss surrounding a stick of SPF lip protector and looks great and kept my lips moist and protected from the sun and wind today (I did a lot of cliff walking along a windy shoreline in Southern Maine). I plan to get a spare to keep in my ski parka. :D

Yes, the dreaded HELMET HAIR. My hair has just enough wave/curl to it that it easily takes on a newly imposed "shape", which after wearing a helmet or more especially, a liner and a helmet, means flat and glued to my head. Not a good look. And this is why when my helmet comes off, a knit hat goes on to hide the mess underneath. Only my braids stick out at that point, so who is to know! :eyebrows:

I'm always surprised when I see women skiing with gobs of makeup on. Obviously there are some for whom skiiing is entirely a social event and place to be "seen." As for me, I put on plenty of sunscreen (this year I've got a stash of Neotrogena's Dry Touch 100 spf). I use mineral type powder makeup, so I put on something to cover up dark circles under my eyes. SPF 30 lip moisturizer. That's really it for me. I never wear all that much makeup anyhow, so I don't look that much different skiing or not skiing, to tell the truth. But for skiiing, I can't imagine putting on the whole enchilada, especially in warm weather! :laughter:

Wasn't there another, similar thread???

Anyway, I wear Kiss Me mascara, which doesn't - and cannot - smear. Upon drying, it forms a rubbery polymer. You remove it with water and a bit of pressure. At worst, you get a few dark flecks on your cheek, but absolutely no "raccoon eyes." You can get it at Sephora, and trust me - once you try it, there's no going back.

Also SPF 50+ UVA/UVB blocking sunscreen. At present I wear La Roche Posay Dermo-Pediatrics, but I'm looking for something richer to prevent wind burn as well as sun burn.

If I'm feeling silly, I wear Urban Decay's Heavy Metal glitter gel eyeshadow. The stuff is as bulletproof as a midwestern ski hill in November (:D).
