Do you lock up your skis?

Wow! What a crazy story! I don't know whose side to take on this one...

This is one of those cases where you feel mortified for everyone! I’m surprised the tour operator didn’t insist on insurance for every rental. I usually waive rental insurance, but if I had a teenager renting gear, I would opt for insurance.

Snowboard are very easy to steal. There are no bindings that need adjustment like skis. Can be easily picked up, no poles to worry about. And Starbucks is about a 1 min walk from the parking lot. One of the best places to lift gear. So I'm not surprised. And it could have been a mistake. All rentals look alike to newbies. Someone might have grabbed the wrong board. I think that's why Mom was waiting to make sure it didn't surface back at the rental shop. All the gear is engraved with inventory numbers. Hard to mask it for the thief. From about 2:30pm on, on the weekends the police have a car parked about 500' from the Starbucks for any complaints about theft. Mobile office!!

I know the guy was afraid he wasn't going to get his money but to kick the poor girl off! Just take them to small claims court when you get back. Also $500 for a board?! Aren't snowboards supposed to be cheaper? That sounds like a premium rental. They needed to be on the most basic package. Or a prorated price for it. @rhymeandreason The insurance is a great idea that I hadn't considered. They should definitely make it mandatory in the future. It's usually like $2-10 more right?

Sidenote: I just realized your name is "rhyme and reason" when I had to spell it. My eyes glazed over it and saw something like Rhododendron LOL:laughter:!

Tremblant and Quebec have a different tax structure on goods and services. While most of Canada uses a harmonized sales tax...Ontario 13%. BC iS lower. But Quebec taxes the product at 5% GST. Then adds the 9% QST . Then Tremblant adds a 2% Tremblant Resort Tax. Comes to 19% tax on your purchase. So the board and binding are somewhere around $650 Can. So around $485.00 US.

Rentals for snowboards are usually Burton at Tremblant.

^^^ That makes sense. Just did a quick google search for snowboards and the price range seems similar to skis. From a quick glance, the Burton ones were a little pricier than the K2 and other models...
