1) the cold. No kidding, I just love the cold air. I inhale deeply as I step outside the door. (and I'm writing this in the heat of July!)
2) the white color, so simple and so beautiful
3) softness of snow, especially when my skis disappeared in it.
4) beautiful scenary, of rocks and trees poking out from underneath a blanket of snow (when I can see it, that is).
5) being outside on a cold day and NOT feeling cold (I'm thinking more of x-c skiing here)

I'm just a winter person. I think I'll retire to Maine (or Alaska?) instead of Florida!

There have been so many great things said already, but a couple others that I really love about skiing (and winter) are:

- the crunchy sound of the snow when you walk on it
- feeling warm even though it's cold out
- smiling with your ski-buds during the run, skiing next to each other
- cool dogs that hang around the lodge
- learning new techniques
- really working at it, then
- relaxing by a crackling fire, boots off, feet up
- looking forward to the next day

- That lovely feeling you get when you stay on your bump line
- Looking over the edge of a cornice, the few moments before you drop in
- Being alone on the lift, looking around and realizing how lucky you are
- That soft noiseless "poof" and "bounce" while transitioning turns in 32" of fresh
- Kicking ass on a day with all of your friends there to see

I miss my snow!!!

1. Watching the radar and snow forecasts the day before a storm. I get all squirmy just thinking about it.
2. Getting to the top of the lift when the Honeycomb rope drops. Heaven.
3. Standing at the top of a 1000'+ powder shot after multiple hours of grunting up a skin track.
4. Seeing the sun rise as I'm ripping my skins on a dawn patrol.
5. Skiing with the Soli Sunday crew.

I have to add a another one just because I finally know how it feels...

6. Getting new skis in July!

1. The smell of hot wax in my little waxing corner of the barn.
2. The memory of the first time I took my then 5-year old for hot chocolate at Bullwinkle's.
3. The memory of the day I saw a rainbow while skiing on Narrow Gauge.
4. Watching my daughter race and ringing that cow bell embarassingly loudly.
5. The energy of skiers.

1. Waking up early (the only thing I will ever wake up early for) and being the first person on a hill so that when you ride the lift back up you can completely identify your tracks. It's especially funny to look at them if you fall on the first run!
2. Being able to ski down a hill and then right back onto the lift. (only happens during weekdays or mornings but I love it.)
3. Racing the lift down. I seriously do this a the smaller place I ski if I'm skiing alone cuz it can get boring. I check what number chair I'm on and see how many chairs I can beat it down by on that run.
4. The relief you feel when your boots come off your feet and watching everyone walk really uncomfortably for 5 min. after.
5. Falling...seriously! Sometimes (if it's not busy), I'll just lay there and stare at the sky while the snow freezes my back.

I have to add one more
6. Hot Chocolate. Ski resorts don't always have the best (or cheapest) food, but I have yet to find a place with bad hot chocolate.
