If you had to describe your skiing, which category would you choose? I know that most of us are a mix of one or the other, but if you had to pick one, what would it be?

It varies day to day - depending on how much my knees hurt, who I'm with, what the snow conditions and visibility are... but overall, I know I always ski better when I'm feelling aggressive. It puts me in the correct forward position and everything is just easier. Now that's not always easy when my knees are protesting, or I can't see where I'm going, but I do know it works better no matter what. So that's what I try to do.

Not to mention that most of the people I ski with definitely charge hard. I'm not interested in seeing how many runs I can ski or if I can stay open to close unless I feel like it. I do go up very early to get on the first few chairs on powder days, but I'd rather ski as hard and as well as I can for a few hours than try to pace myself or struggle when my knees are feeling too bad or conditions have deteriorated. I used to be the other way, but that was before I had a season pass and skiing was so close, and before I knew that those days I keep going when I should have quit are the times I'm more likely to get hurt.

I wanted to pick more than one:(

Most days I feel as though I attack it! But then I really don't have a lot of variety close by, so ........attack what?
I'd say I'm daring, because I want to be the person who does it all.

Flawed Poll!!

There's no category for "Dances with the Mountain"!

Sometimes it's 'faster, faster', sometimes it's 'daring' (I'll stupidly follow almost anybody anywhere :o ), sometimes it's 'agressive', but it's almost always playing with the terrain, the speed, the G-forces, the snow conditions, and 'jammin to the tunes'.

If that's the definition of daring, then count me in too. :p I temper my "daring" side with a lot of "careful", as I don't want to get stuck somewhere that I can't get out of!

I'm not terribly aggressive, at least by my own standards. I do charge harder on terrain that I am more familiar with and comfortable on. In steep, scarier terrain I resort more to technique and smoothness to get me down.

My motto - I'll ski it once. It may not be pretty. I may not do it again. But I'll do it once!! Daring says it.

I wanted to pick multiples, too. I settled on racy, cuz I like to go fast. I gotta start skiing more slowly though, so these short midwest runs can last longer than 20 seconds.

Num, ya gotta love a diva with multiples:D

I definitely need multiple choice here... but since I was forced to choose I went with daring since I'm always trying to challenge myself to do more/better.

I picked daring. Like others, I would have liked to pick a few: aggressive and meditative come to mind as other major influences on the way I ski.

I also like volklgirl's suggestion of "Dances with the Mountain" as an option. I do feel like my skiing is a dance with the mountain. It's part of what keeps me coming back for more.

I'm a "multiple" too. Usually, I'm feeling pretty aggressive, but there are times, especially later in the day, I want to take it easier, ski some blues, and enjoy the view. My husband likes to ski every run top to bottom without stopping, and he can go like that all day. I'm with him for most of it, but by 3 pm, sometimes I'll just hang up my skis and wait for him to finish.

:bump:

Found this old thread and thought I'd bring it back. Anyone care to comment?

Ah, it's an old thread, so I guess I will comment since I am newer.

I went with "Obsessive" since it was the only consistent theme for me, LOL. I make my husband crazy with the "We have to get 10 runs in before lunch!!!"

Lately I have been more daring though.

Love this!! I put "Laid Back" because as much as I love to ski I can take it or leave it!

I am also curious about how much one's skier type meshes with one's basic personality type.

Some people might be very obsessive in real life, and the same way on skis. Or maybe skiing is the vacation from obsessiveness ... I'm pretty laid back in real life, less so in skier life, but still probably more so than others.

I don't really know my skier type. I think it depends on the day. I can be a little anal on powder days, but usually I'm not. Sometimes I'm social, other times I like to go alone and charge hard for 3 hours and go home (like yesterday).

That's it ... we need another option: schizophrenic!

I made allowances for that ... "anal" on powder days. Impatient and mean. All that stuff!
Oh, I know, I just still think it's funny because you are so laid back normally but I have this vision of you getting that phone call and it cracks me up! :p
