Vancouver to Whistler

Hello.

Will be headed to Whistler later this month. Will spend the first night in Vancouver due to a late flight and head to Whistler the next day.

We know about the shuttle that runs to the mountains but heard it takes 3 hours. Are we better off doing a one way car rental. Would like to try to ski a half day our first day out.

Also, has anyone stayed at the Whistler Inn and Suites or the Executive Inn. These are budget accomodations.

Thank you!

If you are staying out by the airport it will take you just as long to get to Whistler driving. The bus will be so much easier and relaxing. Plus they know where they are going.

Can't help you with the accomodations. We've always stayed a condo's.

Next time check out - SkiCan. They do all inclusive trips from Canada and the States. Or if you have a timeshare, they do flights, lifts and shuttle.

3 hours sounds a bit long but by the time you stand in line for the rental car, then make your way up to Whistler, it could be 2.5+ hours anyway (the airport is in Richmond, south of Vancouver, so you have to go through the city to get to Whistler, which is north). And since a car will just sit up there and cost you money, I'd do the shuttle. There's also the chance it could be snowing hard, making driving difficult. I don't know how much the shuttle is, though--if it's actually more expensive than renting a car, I would probably rent the car.

We get condos too. If you are trying to keep costs down, having a kitchen will save you a lot of money--Whistler restaurants tend to be expensive. We have been very happy using alluradirect.com to find condos.

You really can't drive all that much faster than the shuttle. That is, unless the shuttle is spending time picking up other passengers enroute.

So if the shuttle schedule works for you, might as well do that. If you rent a car, you may have to pay for parking while there, depending on where you stay.

On the other hand, if you have more than just one or two person, it might still work out less expensive to rent a car...
