Known as the California Express, the plan for the gondola to connect Squaw Valley to Alpine Meadows was approved by Placer County. Unofficial Networks posted an article on July 24 with Exhibits that show the terminals and mid stations. The U.S. Forest Service completely their review and gave tentative approval earlier this year. Presumably the recent vote was required for final approval. Currently there are free shuttle buses between the Squaw and Alpine base areas. Can ski both on the same day with one lift ticket.

There are a few articles with the history of the idea of a connecting gondola on a Squaw/Alpine website. Goes back to 1995 when Alpine Meadows was an independent ski area.

Andy Wirth was the CEO of Squaw Valley went Alpine Meadows was purchased. As I remember, he was the one who was able to figure out a way to make the California Express more than a dream. He chose to retire in April 2018, which was shortly after Alterra was created with Squaw/Alpine as a key resort in the Alterra collection.
