An amusing sign of the times.
I just came in from a run and was mulling over some things. I actually think that despite it being the 2000s, a lot of people are still "traditional" when it comes to outdoorswomen, etc. I know guys with whom I hike/ski with, but when it comes down to who they want to date or marry, they pick the sedentary woman with the large collection of fashion footwear.
And there are still plenty of women who are perfectly content with these "roles."
