I actually don't remember; It says "Waymaker 90" on the side of the boot. They are charcoal gray & white with splashes of what looks like gray paint.... (pititful, huh?)

Hmm, looks like they do have replaceable toe and heel pads, so maybe that would still work. Those can be removed and something thicker added. It's a thought, anyway. The guy who did it is an accomplished, well-known fitter (pretty sure it's @KatyPerrey's guy). And yes, the remark about necessity and mother of invention is right on. This was a new one for him.

I am so sorry s/s and I can sympathize completely. I will send good thoughts for a speedy and less painful recovery;)

I had a week of paid ski lift tickets for Alta, Utah and on the 3rd day at 3:30pm I chose an un-groomed green run that had at least 12 inches of powder. Since this was only my 3rd season of skiing, unfortunately, it was my first "skiing" powder. Had a hard time staying on top of the powder because my skis wanted to sink and during a turn went down and twisted my left knee, felt a lot of grinding and pain. Involuntarily cursed like a sailor:( Knee collapsed when I tried to stand up so I had a fun trip down the mountain in a basket see pic below. Dr. Ken at Alta Clinic said I tore my ACL and gave me crutches and knee brace. Luckily, Alta Lodge had a lot of people who had suffered the same injury. Especially, MARZNC who gave me some Yunnan Baiyao tea and medicated bandages to use. It will be 2 weeks tomorrow and I am moving around on a cane and never took any pain meds other than naproxen sodium and aspirin. It happened on 4/15/15 and I am still waiting for my GP (general practitioner) to get authorization for a MRI and to start physical therapy.

Aw, ruthies, so sorry to hear that. Hope it was a partial tear or some heal-able type of injury.

@snowski/swimmouse I've been reading up on injury posts for encouragement as I've just had surgery for a ski accident on my knee- bone and soft tissue. I am 1 week post surgery and finding it tough.
Am wondering how you are now and how the recovery has gone. Are you going to be able to ski this season?
My nephew recently broke his leg skiing- spiral fracture of the Tibia. He broke the same knee last year:( he is 16

NZfarmgirl (@2ski2moro): I'm sooo sorry to hear of your accident. Downtime for us active people is really hard. At least I could do some of my work remotely on the computer...
Healingwise, my bone could not have healed quicker or better; I was approved for weighbearing at 6 1/2 weeks and did really well all the way around for the first 8 weeks. Then during therapy, I tore a scar tissue band, which has really given me grief for the past five months. Where they put a titanium rod though my knee has been quite painful. There were lots of milestones, but also periodic setbacks, which can be sooo discouraging. But, ~finally~, just two days ago, the severe sensitivity in my knee finally let up. I think even the surgeon had given up on that ever happening and I was really concerned I wouldn't be able to ski. I am so buoyed by this improvement!!! I'm 7 months in and I guess I should remember that my body is ultrasensitive and soft tissue can take longer to "become happy" again. With this improvement, I'm feeling much better about having paid in full for a week in Steamboat, Colorado in December. I'm still doing therapy, at least for another 5 weeks. Water therapy beginning after 2 months really helped a lot. And after about 4 1/2 months I started doing some light biking, after much time on a stationary bike. I did therapy at home inside and in the pool daily, plus two sessions with the therapists each week. The beginning of September I returned to Vermont where I was canoeing, kayaking, light biking and did a couple mini-hikes having been off the cane for about 6 weeks when I went.
Hang in there...I'd love to hear from you, good or bad, and follow your progress. I make a pretty good sounding board when you need one... skimouse
