Anyone skied Shaggy skis? Made in Michigan

I have skied several of their skis. You can find my reviews here: http://geargeekgirl.blogspot.com/2018/01/shaggys-copper-country-skis-tubby.html?m=1 I now also own one of their original Carve SL models and will be updated my entry to add it shortly.

What ski wax do you use?

I have been using Hertel waxes since they first went commercial in the 1980s. I do a 3:2 mix of HotSauce and Cold Snap/Spring Solution for the fat skis and the same mix except with FC739 Racing for the carving and race skis. I love that the waxes come in huge bricks, and I never have to change...

Coalition Snow Bliss and Sweet Salvation (S<O>S)

I have also added the SOS in the 180 cm (109 waist) to my quiver, and couldn’t be more pleased. It retains the fun factor of the 173 cm (105 waist) while adding extra support for higher speeds and deeper, gunkier snow. I was worried the 180 might be too big this year after having bariatric...

    Big Changes at TheSkiDiva!

Well, I can tell how long it’s been since I logged in last. I read the Ski talk announcement and was like; wait…whaaaatttt??? congrats to you both!

Tell me about your ski quiver!

I would. I’m regretting having the 180s mounted on the line. I may need to have them moved back 1 cm.

    Bariatric surgery and ski length?

Has anyone here had bariatric surgery or lost up to 100 lbs by another method? Did you need to downsize your skis once your weight stabilized?

How are wood skis made in Michigan? Shaggy Skis Factory Tour 2022

They've been in 4 different factories in Boyne City. They're currenty in the industrial park on the north side of the road, east of McD's. Even if they're not having a demo "day", you can call them and pick up demos to ski for a day wherever you choose.

All mountain ski length for light-weight skier?

Your description of sjiing off piste: Suggests to me that no length of ski will make your off piste skiing any easier. I'm hearing that you gain control of your speed by rushing the finish of your turn, rather than making a full and complete turn, and that will never give you controled speed in...

How are wood skis made in Michigan? Shaggy Skis Factory Tour 2022

I’ve demoed Shaggy’s multiple times (you’ll find my evolving reviews in the review section). I’ve also toured their factories (they keep moving as they run out of room). Their operation is impressive for a 3-person family shop (plus 2? Employees, I think). Jeff and John are both strong...

Tell me about your ski quiver!

The 173s are mounted with Griffon Demos, and by nature of my 287 boot sole length, my toe piece is as far back as it can go. That puts me just shy of 1 cm back. The 180s are mounted on the line. In general, I tend to like the more neutral “unisex” mount position on all my skis. Are you having...

Tell me about your ski quiver!

They range in age between 2004 and 2023. The only ones in that list that I don't ski on a regular basis are the GS 180, the Karma 177, and the Kuro (with a waist of 132, they need REAL powder to be any fun). We have more in the rafter of the garage that will be going to ski swaps (I'm FINALLY...

    We're Sweet Sixteen!

Its been so long, I don't even remember. I was at the first? Bears/Divas Mother's Day meetup at A-Basin in 2008 (I think) with @SnowHot, @Jilly, @Robyn, and I don't even remember who else.

Super helpful video chosing your skis

Take a look at the Atomic Redster X9s or the Volkl Deacon series. Both are in the 70s and are going to keep the racer in you happy while maintaining a bit of versatility.

    Your "Aha!" moment

I’ve had 2, and both were from the same clinician/coach. The first was “parallel shins”. That rolls your inside knee into the third and out of the way, gives both skis similar edge angles, and stops the inside hip from getting stuck at the end of the turn. The second one was to ski part of a...

    Ski upgrade recommendations

I can’t imagine the Kiku being unstable and chattery. Even the full rocker (106-107 waisted) versions are basically fat race skis. We almost never try to talk someone out of buying new skis, and I’m not here, either, but I do have a few questions; when did you have them tuned last, how many days...
