This is cool (from Unofficial Networks):
A couple of atmospheric scientists are developing a new snowmaking system that produces “high-quality powder snow”. The company is aiming to break-free from the “frozen dribble” created by snow systems today.
Quantum Snow was created by two atmospheric scientists, Dr. Peter Veals and Dr. Trey Alvey, who developed the idea during their PHD work at The University of Utah. The project has received various scientific grants, and appears to be gaining some traction. Check out the comparison of artificial snow, quantum snow, and natural snow crystals below. Looks promising.
However, Quantum Snow has only been able to create the powder-esque snow in limited quantities to date. They have launched a Kickstarter to raise funds to build their first snow-gun prototype.
