Need to brag a little here.
Our canoe/kayak club (flatwater sprint racing) competed at Canmas (Canadian Masters) in Dartmouth, NS, last Sunday. This event always follows the Canadian championships, which this year featured not only the best in Canada, but those who are among the best in the world (such as Adam van Koeverden).
Anyway, we masters weren't quit at that level, but the event on Lake Banook in Dartmouth was just fabulous. This is one of the best locations in the world, with three major canoe clubs located on the lake. I took part in five events (should have been six, but the boat we were to use for our last race didn't get back to the dock in time and we missed the start) – and thanks to my advanced age and the fact we were able to stay upright and in our lane for the entire race, I ended up with a gold and three silver. Only one we didn't medal in was war canoe. But most exciting, our club won the overall championships, beating out the local clubs there which have far superior facilities. Very exciting indeed.
