Help Needed: Volkl Auras - what length and what bindings?

Hello Ladies,

I am considering buying the Volkl Auras 2011 ($560, new, mounted with Marker Griffon 13 bindings included). Is this a good deal?

What do you think would be the right size for me? I am 5'6" 125lbs, level 9 skier... I read on this forum that Market Griffon 13 may no be the best choice for the bindings... What do you think?

Many thanks for your advice! Happy new Year!!!

I'm 5'4" 125lbs and my local ski shop told me due to my petite size and weight that there wasn't really any logical reason I needed the griffons instead of the squires for my new Kenjas, so that's what I'm having out on those this week. As for length depends on your ski ability + size... In my case the Northstar demo shop told me to try the 163's and I really liked them at that length, I hadn't been sure if I should have been on the 156, but they talked me up to the longer one so that's what I tested and what I then came home and told the local shop to prep for me

Thanks shima. Actually, according to the website that sells the package, the Marker Griffons are for "lighter skiers". The skis are sold with the Market Griffon 13 and I may be able to substitute the bindings for some cheaper ones. My question would be: will my performance deteriorate if I keep the griffons or would it be neutral (like driving a Porsche below 50miles/hour = you do not really see the benefits of having a fast car, but it works).

The Marker Griffon is a "High Performance" binding! The Squire is the next binding down with a lower DIN range. I would stay with the Griffon!!

You need the Griffon instead of the Squire if a) you're worried about the DIN being too low on the Squire and or b) you weigh a lot and need a higher DIN.

Personally, at least in my case, I don't see much of a need for a DIN 13 versus a DIN 11 (max for Griffon is DIN 13 max for Squire is DIN 11) so in that case it made sense for me to go with a the Squire which weighs a smidgeon less and is slightly cheaper. If you feel you need the higher DIN, go with the Griffon.

Thank you Ladies. So now that I am ready to buy the skis (and my coupon code expires tonight so I better rush!), where should I put the mounting point. My ski boots are 24.5. Would center work or should I mount them slightly backwards like the Mantras (unfortunately the Mantras are not sold in 163...)?

Thank you and happy 2011!

Unless you have some reason not to, just mount them boot center on the line.
