Snowbasin finally announced an opening date. So all the Ikon/Epic resorts around SLC are either open or will be by Dec. 2. Snowbird announced Nov. 30 a while back and stuck to it. Solitude and Park City had Nov. 17 as their target and made it happen. Alta was hoping to open as early as Nov. 10 but by mid-November decided to wait due to low snow levels and didn't open until Nov. 25. PowMow always opens later since there isn't any snowmaking there.

The last Ikon resort I've been paying attention to finally announced an opening date. Mt. Bachelor will open Dec. 2. The last few years Bachelor hasn't opened by Thanksgiving but they were shooting for Nov. 24. Hasn't been much new snow in the PacNW in the last few weeks.

I mostly looked at resort websites for updates about an opening date. Being on a resort's e-list is the best way to learn about when a resort is actually going to open when Mother Nature is not cooperating.

Saddleback (ME) opens Sat, Dec 2.

Advance tickets of $49 are plentiful for mid-week non-holiday (but exclude a few holiday dates). Better yet: senior tickets are $39 most days. One of the few "good" things about getting older...?? Website shows availability for all season dates.

Black Mountain (of Maine - BMOM) opens Dec 26. Next year, I ski there for FREE.
