New ski advice

Carol, so true what you say! What's the point of having longer edges when a skier cannot work the whole length of a ski? Good hold is one thing but the idea is to turn the ski, not too hold on the edges all the time. I choose skis around my height and a couple inches shorter for touring and pure piste carving. I heard advice to go longer for touring, but after doing some kick turns on steep terrain I am glad I didn't listen and went for 163 instead of 170 - At 170 I would have to start boot packing much earlier and would be wasting too much energy which is already depleted when we close on destination.

Plus, with rockered skis if you put them on edges properly the contact length goes up. So going 2-3 inches plus is one thing, going up 5 inches may end up being quite another one, regardless of the rocker. Try when in doubt.
