Question: New Equipment: When to take First Lesson

New skis: Upgraded from beginner to Volkl Luna skis
New boots: Smaller, properly fitted
Terrain: Skied on East Coast, so far

First ski days this season will be a weekend in the Denver area. I'd like to take advantage of the good instruction I might find there. This is the first time I've switched gear, meaning I've not had to adapt to this before.

a) Bad idea to take a lesson on the first day because boots, skis, and west coast are all new to me and I'll be completely in my head?

b) Good idea because being slightly "off" with equipment might help loosen a death grip on a bad habit, or help me start the season on a better note?

c) Makes no difference

[Colorado instructors, Beware: it may be YOUR schedule my name ends up on!]

The Lunas are a pleasure to ski, you'll have no problem with them. If the boots are properly fit, other than being a little tight, you should be good! I would plan to ski easy groomers to warm up and take a private lesson later in the morning, nothing like getting started right and it's different skiing in CO than in the Northeast. If you go to Copper, definitely try to take a lesson with Katy Perrey, she's a Diva here on the forum and is a great ski instructor.

Gee, thanks ... you just ruined the Sunday afternoon for TWO people! I had told my SO about your reputation on here. Both of us were interested in possibly getting a lesson with you, but your schedule and ours aren't aligning.

Ummm ... you could always reschedule your trip. <covering ears and ducking>

I'll PM you for more info on instructors.
