Question: Boots for Snowshoeing?

Hi All,

I realize Snowshoeing isn't skiing, but wasn't sure quite where to place my question. So, feel free to move it.

For those that regularly snowshoe, what are your thoughts about using Cross Country ski boots? Trying to be forward thinking.. 1 gear for 2 purposes... but only if it works well.

I'd be concerned about the boot and binding. I'm thinking about the "hoop" in the front of the boot. And gaiters might be necessary

I just use a pair of Columbia winter boots with mine. Boots came from Costco.

I found a pair of Adidas over-the-ankle running shoes, Gortex, with a neoprene cuff to keep out snow, with a sole that has an extension behind the heel that helps hold the heel strap in a snowshoe binding in. They are great! I have snowshoes made for running, so these shoes are perfect. My cross-country ski boots would get uncomfortable for snowshoeing.....the motion is too different (picking up your foot instead of gliding).

I just wear my regular snowboots or my goretex hiking boots with gaiters depending on temperature and how much snow I'm dealing with.

Jilly, any reasons you picked the Columbia Bugaboot over the Sorel Carabou?
