Holy!

My boyfriend was following me in the whiteout three years ago. I went down and waited for him at the first chair. Waited for 10 min. I knew something was not right. Went up on the chair and went down the same way. I see a patroller standing in a bump area. I knew something was not good. I got closer as it was really blowing and still whiteout. Well, as soon as I got close enough, about 20 ft, I see him sitting in bumps.
As soon as I got there, here comes a toboggan.
Going down RIGHT behind it, I lose them one point because could not see 10ft ahead then.
Anyway, ended up having a surgery next morning.
Broken tibial.
Now, three years later, he is 99% recovered. Skied the following year and ever since.

I am sending you a hug and prayers.
Thank you  x

I've got really good goggles but I didnt have my low light lenses in as up until that point it was a super sunny day, the light flattened just as we were getting off the lift and even then it didnt seem too bad, just enough to mask the traverse track.
Sooooo sorry this happened to you.

Thank you:love:, yes we have a fabulous emergency health system over here and its all paid for by ACC thank goodness !!! I have another appointment in a weeks time and they will re scan it and see whats happening. x
At least that is great news. I think my BF's medical cost was $50k just for the surgery.....

I do have another fun fact for you all :yahoo:
The other knee that was giving me grief turned out to have a torn miniscus !!! Only minor but that explains all the pain I was in. Thankfully its only minor and will come right with physio.
Crikey I'm a wreck

Have you tried some high tech goggles?
I have Photochromic goggles as well.
Now days, what they have out there are amazing. You might want to try some.
Yes I do, though might try experimenting with some different colored lenses this season. I have an astigmatism and it affects driving in low light as well, my eyes just don’t adjust well to these conditions unfortunately.

Well, that looks like a sturdy brace! Like everyone, I hope you can avoid the surgery.

My only ride on a sled came after breaking my glasses. I was a pretty new skier and have very poor vision; I didn't trust myself to ski to the bottom of the trail, take the lift up another, and ski down to the lodge without glasses. I also admired the patroller's lovely skiing, and I was proud to say I recognized Falling Leaf even though I'd never skied it myself! Keep up the humor - it helps a lot!
That sounds terrifying! I ski with contact lenses and a spare pair in my pocket in case I somehow lose both (I can manage with one in to get down the hill...)

Post here when you've tried some things, would love to know how you get on! Astigmatism and high myopia seems to mean I don't quite experience the same glorious benefits that all the goggles brands promise with regards to flat light.

Ouch ouch ouch! You should be ready for next year with some good rehab though...?

I get it.

I had terrible astigmatism. I just got my eye lasered because of that. I see a lit better now!

Ohhh, bummer @AJM , I'm sorry to hear about the injury. I had a non-displaced tibial plateau fracture in early March 2017. I didn't have a brace or surgery, but I was non-weightbearing for 4 (or maybe it was 6?) weeks before progressively being able to put weight on the leg. I was skiing in July. Fingers crossed you have a similar recovery.

OMG @AJM , I've been AWOL the last couple of weeks and only just saw this, what an awful way to end the season!!! :frown: At least it only had a few more days left anyway - I see Porters is closed, and Hutt normally starts evaporating pretty damn quickly once spring hits (it only looks nice on the webcams at the moment because of that unseasonal cold snap a couple of days ago :P ).

Fingers tightly crossed that you won't need any surgery  the Canterbury public health system seemed really decent when I went through it a few years ago with my broken ankle, and as you say, ACC makes this all easy and stress-free in terms of finances, so phew!

UPDATE !!!
Had a follow up hospital appt today and I'm all good to start weight bearing as tolerable and am allowed to bend my knee ...Yippeeee :yahoo:
I've got to keep the brace on for another 6 weeks but life on the sofa is going to be so much better.
My MRI confirmed I've torn my meniscus in my other leg and I also have a suspected MCL tear in the broken leg but they think that both of these can be fixed with rehab so thats a huge relief as I've hopefully dodged surgery.
Most important of all is that I should be able to ski again next season as long as I behave myself and rehab like crazy so that news has put a spring in my step ...excuse the pun :jumphappy:
I cant wait for you all to start skiing so I can live the dream vicariously xx

Well gals its now 12 weeks since my "awfully big crash" and things aren't going quite as I had hoped
So over the last few weeks there's been more MRIs and XRays which have revealed that yes there is a meniscus tear on the broken leg and wait for it ..... turns out I also have a fractured ankle on the other leg which explains a lot of the pain I've been in on that side.
So to clarify, my "awfully big crash" resulted in a non displaced fracture on the tibial plateau and torn meniscus (oh and apparently a small Bakers Cyst) on my left leg and a torn meniscus and fracture in my ankle on the right side :injured:

I'm having a Ph consult with my specialist on Monday night to discuss our plan of action but my Physio thinks that perhaps he might take a wait and see approach as things do seem to be getting better even though it is soooo slow.

Fun fact .... the original TBF is almost as good as new now, its everything else that's slowing down the progress.
PRAYING that I'll be able to ski next season :ski:
