I've never been to Mt. Snow before, but it's on my Peak pass and they were set to open today with some beginner terrain. Since I was on my way to White River Junction for Thanksgiving anyway, stopped over and spent the day skiing Long John and trying out my new boots; toward the end of the day, I gave my new Kendos a go as well.
There were apparently some people that camped out at the Bluebird express all night to be first in line, which I thought was an ... interesting... life choice. There was never a wait at the Bluebird express all day, and the trails were pleasantly uncrowded. In addition to LJ, there was a top-to bottom intermediate trail open and they were working hard to get one of the North Face expert trails running by the end of the day. I heard through the grapevine (bartender) that a snow cat had become stuck at the bottom of the lift they were working on, so I'm not sure whether they ever opened it.
The snow was fantastic, which really surprised me. They had received about 7 inches a few days earlier on top of what they were blowing. I don't know how to talk about snow except to describe the various ways it sucked last year (granular, ice, mashed potatoes, etc.). So, this was none of those. It was great!
So, nothing fancy, just a quick trip report from a nice first day of the season.
