Too bad you are allergic to Maine Coons. This is my first one and I'd say it is the perfect family cat. He is so chill and loves company. He's been a very good addition to my home.
When I got Oscar as a kitten, I was hoping she'd be a Maine Coon. At an overweight 12 pounds, it's not likely, although I hear females can be as light as 9 pounds. She has tufts of fur between her feet, but her body is more flyaway fur than the rough multi-length coat of an MC.
I keep telling DH that after Oscar dies, I want a Maine Coon (she won't tolerate other cats; doesn't mind the dog so much). He's not interested in another cat. We'll see ... it's nice to have a little warm body in the bed ... on the other hand, even our tiny cat tends to take up 1/3 of a cali king somehow, so maybe a break would be nice!
A male polydactyl Maine Coon would probably be my dream kitty =)
