Your first skis

Do you remember your first skis? What were they?
Do you still have your first skis?

I was at my sisters house when we started to discuss first skis.
It turns out that I gave my first skis to my niece who still had them in her closet.

K2 SP51's, 170cm, with Salomon 357 bindings on them.
I had matching blue/white rear entry Alpina boots that hurt my feet so bad I hated them.
I think they're around somewhere too, but not sure where.

Mine are easy to remember since they appeared nearly 5 years ago. :becky:

140cm Rossignol Saphir Snows. I loved the irridescent topsheet on them. Didn't love how short they were, though, once I started progressing. Cute but in the end, I outgrew them quickly. They moved on to a new home last year at the skis swap.

Rossignol Snowbirds. They were gray with red and blue stripes, IIRC. would have been about... 1985 maybe? Definitely don't have them anymore - they got left at my parents house when I went to college (I had outgrown them anyway), and they got rid of them.

I'm not really sure about the first ones. They were red and had "bear trap" bindings on them, early 60's. Hand me downs from family friends. The first pair that were mine - new - were Tyrolia's, burgundy with cable bindings, steel edges that were screwed one. I dug the tip out of the tree well the week after I hit it, for my bedroom wall. Still have it.

Now as for first boots - we skied in our snow boots for years, then went to leather boots for the cable bindings and then in the 70's to buckle boots - Humanic's with 5 buckles and they still only went to your ankles.

My, my how things have gotten better!

I learned when I was 3 (or so my mother tells me) and don't remember my first skis. The first ones I remember (from the 60's) were Fischer's. Don't remember what model, but they were white. I sold them to a classmate in 1967 when I got Head 360's (those I still have) for my birthday.

As for boots, I started with the leather lace-up ones. By the time I got my Heads I had leather buckle boots.

Don't really remember them much since I was 5...but I think they were black, wood, screw on edges, bearclaw binding, leashes for saving a runaway ski, and they were VERY long. They were hand-me-downs from my brothers and who knows if they were new to them. I remember having to raise my hand above my head to see which was taller -- me and my raised hand or the ski -- the ski was! From looking at old ski pictures I think these may have been Northland brand.

I don't remember too much about mine, either (after all, it was 1968!). But I do remember they were wood. And red. And Harts. And I absolutely loved them.

Century Honeycombs! With Look Nevada bindings! I felt so cool! I have a scar on the back of my head where the ski clubbered me during a fall (thanks to the the safety straps), I hate safety straps!

Well, my first skis are the same ones that I've been using up until this season! I don't know exactly what model they are, but we got them in 2000, and they're K2s, the T9 series, one of their early women's specific lines. I remember thinking how cool and girly they were when I got them, but the new women's skis are much cooler and girlier! They've treated me well, but unless I manage to get up skiing before Christmas this year, they are hereby designated as rock skis...

My first pair of skis were a used pair of K2s - they were silver with navy blue K2s on the tips.

My second pair of skis (my first pair of new skis) were Kastle 420sl? something like that. I will have to double check when I get home.

The first pair of skis that I owned were a pair of Elan Contender RCs with Tyrolia bindings. They were a jr. ski that had a white top sheet and hot pink and aqua/teal triangle graphics.

I think it must have been around '68, the first pair were dark blue or black, wood, cable bindings and a little decal of olympic rings. I have no idea what brand. Accompanying them were a pair of leather boots with 2 sets of laces, one set inside and one set on the exterior. The second pair was a big step up to pretty blue Heads with Tyrolia bindings. Back then, skis were pretty plain, no graphics and we always had our names engraved on the skis just above the binding toe. Anyone else remember doing that?

Yup. Usually in gold or black depending on the ski colour. Don't remember an inner and outer boot, but the leather and lace ups were a step up from the regular snowboot that went over your shoes.

My first pair were Rossignol Challengers in the green color with Look bindings. My boots were a second hand pair of 2 buckle Nordica's. I outgrew the skis after the first season, then bought Rossignol Stratos and Lang boots. I sold everything a long time ago.

I don't remember exactly what my first pair is, only that it's redish and narrow.

I'm not really all that fussy about my skis (boots yes, ski no). So even though I had used it until 2 years ago, I don't recall what brand or modal it was. I do remember the length because that's what I would ask for if I need to rent...

I was only two, but I remember my parents kept them for years after I grew out of them. They were red with really pointy tips and they were Rossignol. I remember sidestepping up the "magic" carpet on them. Too bad they didn't have the movable magic carpet then.

The first ones I remember were purchased from the rental fleet from May D&F, which was a Denver department store that has since been absorbed by Macy's. I have no idea what kind of skis they were, I just remember the "May D&F" engraved above the binding.

My first pair of new skis were orange Olin Mark IVs.

Gosh, I haven't a clue what my first skis were. I'll email my Papa to see if he remembers. I do remember that my last pair of race skis so used until I was 11 or 12 were Pre 195s! The skis I just took to be mounted are 177s and seemed long, I can't imagine skiing 195s when I was 11 or 12!

I have (not so) fond memories of those leather boots. It would take forever to first lace up the inner boot, and then lace up the outer. I would finally get all laced up and ready, and my brother (older, of course) would start asking if my feet itched. He'd keep it up until my feet itched like crazy and I was in tears.

I remember seeing my first skis under the Christmas tree. They were made of wood, painted red, and had bear trap bindings and METAL EDGES!!!! This was a very big deal in the early 60s. I don't remember the brand, but they were second hand. My parents were frugal.

My boots were made of leather and laced up. I think there was also a buckle (like a belt buckle) over the instep. My feet were always freezing in them.
