I've been spending a lot of time in the car lately, and I don't know what the price of gas is where you are, but yikes, it's high in the northeast!

Here's a sampling:

In PA, yesterday: $2.87.
On the NY State Thruway, outside Syracuse, this morning: $2.99!
In MA, outside Boston, today: $2.85

Shades of Katrina! Think it'll go over $3.00 a gallon again????

We're close to $1.00Cdn/litre. So 4 l/US gal and around 80 cents equals ... close to $3.20 US$/US gal. You're still cheaper!! But I don't think we're going to see anything under 90 cents/litre this summer.

Sorry to say this but it is over $3 already, because I paid $3.03 this week here in NY.

grrr

I am paying $10.00 to drive to work and back! If you think that's bad, you should see my propane bill. It cost me just under 1k to fill a 500 gallon tank. :( We live in an area notorious for low wages and high property values, I have no idea how some of these people are making it. My conversation with the propane driver makes me think alot of people aren't. It's really sad.

Indeed. I curse the gas stations everytime I drive by and see the prices have been nudged up yet again. 2 years ago I managed to only once pay more than $3/gal, but I'm not so sure I'll be so lucky this time. I think this summer we'll be driving my husband's Accord a lot. I call my car - Honda CR-V - the "winter car" because it has the AWD and tires to get anywhere I/we need/want in the winter and then I don't mind the lesser mileage for the piece of mind that I know my car get get wherever I need to go. But right now 23-24 MPG (for my commute) doesn't seem so nice!

I guess I'm the lucky one. I get to take the subway to work. It's $2 each way. And on good weather days, which is most days, I bike to work, cost: $0!

But in the grand schem of things, gas is not the least bit expensive compare to other things. Let's see, $10/day to drive to work, that's about 1/7 of a day of lift ticket at Killington!

I think the NYC area is around 3.20 - 3.30. I take the subway, but the huz drives. It's probably gotten to the point where his gas costs are more than if he took the train (he works in CT).

I'm with abc and rachelv. I walk, take the train, skate, or bus. Gas around here is 3.30-3.50 at the moment. Changes by the day, brand, and neighborhood though.

Any of you guys live by a Costco with a gas station? Over here their gas is significantly cheaper. Several friends and my mama swear by it.

Just spent $3.05 in Massachusetts. We've on a road trip to promote THE BOOK, so gas has been a killer.

Saw on the news this morning that it may hit $4. a gallon by August.

In Canada there are stations at Costco, Wal-mart and the Great Canadian Superstore (Loblaws). I don't drive by the gas station on the way to work, so I haven't noticed the price. But this AM I did drive by a Petro-Canada (part owned by the gov't!), it was $105.9/litre. So that equates to $3.90 US/US gal. Summer is going to be interesting. I don't think the big power boats will be out that much this summer. Usually I can hear them on the Bay from our place about 2 blocks away. Alot of the guys go out after supper for run up the Bay. I have been hearing alot of motorcycles around town though. Must be better on gas or spring fever!!
