Yes, I disabled the friend feature.

Hope you don't mind, but I took down the "Friends" feature in the Profile section.

I actually would've done this as soon as the forum software was upgraded, since it was part of the new package. But everyone jumped on it before I had the chance -- and I actually just figured out how to do it this morning.

My personal feeling is that the Friends feature does little to enhance friendship on the board. I think it might even serve to divide us into smaller groups -- and that is not TheSkiDiva way. I consider everyone here on the forum my friend, and don't think it's necessary to single out a few select individuals. I don't think there's anything to be gained by it.

You can still maintain a list of people with whom you'd like to share photo albums you don't want visible to the general membership. Just add them to your contact list, which can be accessed in the User Control Panel. If you confirmed anyone as your "friend" before the Friend Feature was disabled, they are now on your contact list.

If anyone has any issues with this, post here or send me a PM. I'm sorry if taking this away makes people unhappy, but I think it's really best for the Forum.

Your FRIEND,
Wendy

My sentiments exactly....and it was getting REALLY hard to invite all 900+ to be my friend!

It's better to just have a general statement out there....YOU ARE ALL MY FRIENDS!!!!

Okay breaking it to be a complete idiot here, but since we are all friends, I have to ask. I have seen this feature on other sites, and since I really haven't spent anytime on other sites, I always kind of wondered, what do you do with your "friends"? I know that sounds stupid, I don't get it though.

Well, with MY friends, I go skiing! :becky:

:ROTF:

Seriously, though....I have no idea....but I have a feeling it's how these teenagers are getting their faces beat in and getting national attention for it!

I know it's a stupid question, but DD recently joined a kid friendly site with "friends" and she asked me the question. I really don't know, it seems somewhat sophmoric if I may in a way. I am glad Skidiva disabled it, it doesn't seem like a good fit for this forum..

Actually, it's not a stupid question.....I was being a smart aleck! I think it would be REALLY good for any parent on here who know about the "friend" feature to know about it. It's responsible to know what your kids are doing and especially since your daughter asked you, Gloria, I hope someone on here can help you out!

I just don't know enough about the "forum" thing. This is my only contact with a forum. I'm selective! :becky:

Can anyone else help Gloria out here?

Add me to the "clueless" list.

I didn't even know about the feature untill I got "invited" by one on this board... but I never got to find out what it is...

On Facebook, only your "Friends" can see your profile and leave comments on your page. On other sites, I don't know -- maybe it's similar.

All I know is that we don't need it here.

The funny thing is, I checked the thing out and it seemed super safe which is why I let her do it, and wanted her to do it, so she wouldn't you know, find something else on her own. But all that happened was she got a bunch of friend requests, but didn't know what she was suppose to do with them. So anyway, she sent a message to the administrator and asked. Lol. All he said was " friends are nice ". Long story short, it got real boring real fast, so she lost interest almost immediately and quit using it. Which in a way is great as she probably won't be interested in pursuing alot of other sites in the future.

Well, that makes perfect sense for an application like facebook, in which united people are using it to stay united, share photos with distant relatives etc. But you are right, it doesn't fit in here and it's definately neat to see how the DOD section has blossomed more and more as the Divas have gotten together this winter etc. Good call!

I accepted you as my friend! When I sent out a friend request, I noticed that when they were accepted, I received no "notice" but the check mark next to that person's avator was checked....

Anyway, we're all friends here on Ski Diva~
