Big Sky: March 17, 2008
Another fun day in Montana! Today I was off, so since I didn't have little ones to worry about, I decided to meet a friend at Big Sky. I have to preface this by saying I have never skied over to Big Sky from YC, and I was not blessed with the best navigational skills (thank goodness for GPS!). So, after diligently studying the maps and chatting with the concierge, I set off for Big Sky bright and early this morning. After taking three lifts, crossing over a river, and going over a bridge, I was
supposed to take a lift that would dump me onto Big Sky's property where could ski down to the base and meet up with my friend. The problem was that the lift wasn't running for some mysterious reason (I asked about when I came back and the ee denied that it had ever been closed). Anyways, since it was early and I was full of energy I decided that I could bootpack my way up a shortcut and then ski over to Big Sky's lift. So, I successfully (but, totally and ridiculously out of breath) make my way up and get to where I planned on skiing over to Big Sky's lift. But, there is a bit of a problem, there are closed signs every five feet. I stood there for about 10 minutes trying to figure out what to do. There was no way that I could manage skiing back down and then packing my way up a different slope. I finally decided that the signs weren't avi signs and there were two other sets of tracks down...so, I went for it! Then I did a "Ski Diva" move and managed to eat it big time, getting my skis seemingly permanently planted behind me, with my face planted face down towards the bottom. After trying unsuccesfully to get my skis unwedged, I started laughing hysterically... I mean really how silly is this?

I'm stuck on a closed slope by myself and I'm not sure if I'm actually on YC land or Big Sky land. So laughing while still suspended upside down I call my friend that I was meeting and told her my situation and she arranged for patrol to come help me. Fifteen minutes later two patrol guys showed up and joined in the laughter. They managed to get me unstuck and we were on our way.
We had a blast skiing the bumps for a bit in the morning on Mad Wolf, Broken Arrow, Crazy-Raven and then cruised the groomers w/the mountain hosts.
SNWL is right Big Sky rocks! I may take my charges over for a day or so later this week. The 4 year old went into the terrain park for the first time yesterday and did great! He was so, so, so proud of himself! Here's a pic of him on our flight into Montana
