The morning started out with with blue skies, a light dusting of new snow, and grins all around! We did spins down an entire slope to celebrate! :p It was a morning filled with joy and fun!

I'm waiting on pics from my friends camera. With two young children skiing in tow I don't whip out the camera often enough!

Big Sky: March 17, 2008

Another fun day in Montana! Today I was off, so since I didn't have little ones to worry about, I decided to meet a friend at Big Sky. I have to preface this by saying I have never skied over to Big Sky from YC, and I was not blessed with the best navigational skills (thank goodness for GPS!). So, after diligently studying the maps and chatting with the concierge, I set off for Big Sky bright and early this morning. After taking three lifts, crossing over a river, and going over a bridge, I was supposed to take a lift that would dump me onto Big Sky's property where could ski down to the base and meet up with my friend. The problem was that the lift wasn't running for some mysterious reason (I asked about when I came back and the ee denied that it had ever been closed). Anyways, since it was early and I was full of energy I decided that I could bootpack my way up a shortcut and then ski over to Big Sky's lift. So, I successfully (but, totally and ridiculously out of breath) make my way up and get to where I planned on skiing over to Big Sky's lift. But, there is a bit of a problem, there are closed signs every five feet. I stood there for about 10 minutes trying to figure out what to do. There was no way that I could manage skiing back down and then packing my way up a different slope. I finally decided that the signs weren't avi signs and there were two other sets of tracks down...so, I went for it! Then I did a "Ski Diva" move and managed to eat it big time, getting my skis seemingly permanently planted behind me, with my face planted face down towards the bottom. After trying unsuccesfully to get my skis unwedged, I started laughing hysterically... I mean really how silly is this? I'm stuck on a closed slope by myself and I'm not sure if I'm actually on YC land or Big Sky land. So laughing while still suspended upside down I call my friend that I was meeting and told her my situation and she arranged for patrol to come help me. Fifteen minutes later two patrol guys showed up and joined in the laughter. They managed to get me unstuck and we were on our way.

We had a blast skiing the bumps for a bit in the morning on Mad Wolf, Broken Arrow, Crazy-Raven and then cruised the groomers w/the mountain hosts.

SNWL is right Big Sky rocks! I may take my charges over for a day or so later this week. The 4 year old went into the terrain park for the first time yesterday and did great! He was so, so, so proud of himself! Here's a pic of him on our flight into Montana

Mindy, you get yourself into the worst scrapes!!!

I'm honored that you named your predicament after me! Wow! What a fitting tribute! Glad you're okay. It's an awful position to be in, isn't it??

In case you haven't noticed, my Avatar is Lone Peak at Big Sky from the top of the Thunder Wolf lift. Big Sky is my home mountain away from home. I LOVE that mountain.

In February, I skied Mad Wolf with Ursula, little 'ol me who had never really skied bumps before. That is an amazing run and with her coaching, I enjoyed myself, even on the steep part up above. And by the groomers, I suspect that included Big Horn (my favorite groomer) and Elk Park Ridge. Gives a whole new meaning to the word "groomer" doesn't it?

NannyMin, you and I will have to ski Big Sky together one day and show Ski Diva around, for sure!

Glad the day was so much fun and that cell service is so good in that region. And what a cutie that little boy is!

:D

That is what my Mom always says.

But, so awfully silly! You just have to laugh at yourself in those situations. What other sport gets you into such hysterical predicaments w/out injury? Gotta love skiing!

What an intro into moguls SNWL! I'm impressed! I took some pics of that area, but, it looks ridiculously less steep than it is in actuality!

Yep, we skied them both. I'm telling you I think if we had not had to leave (gates and access lifts close at 3:30) they would have guided us around until sweeps! I've never done the whole mountain tour thing before and now I know it is an excellent way to find out where the locals ski and get the insider info!

You are on!

Glad the day was so much fun and that cell service is so good in that region. :D

No kidding. I'm not quite sure what I would have done if I my cell hadn't worked!
