Wrassling with boot shell

Does anybody have a good idea for opening up the flaps of a shell---sans liner---really, really wide?

I obtained an optional last for my Head S9s that makes the forefoot and heel narrower. It's a footbed with wing flaps that come up around the sides of the foot and around the back of the heel. The bottom is totally rigid and unbendable. See it here: https://www.head.com/ski/technology.php?region=us&tag=full_custom_system (It's the red piece.)

I need to get the shell flaps open wide enough to slide this contraption in the shell. I'm not strong enough to spread the flaps wide enough.

This shell seems exceptionally rigid. I can barely get my foot in it.
