How 'bout the guys that wear kilts to ski or snowboard? I can't decide if it's unparalleled bravery or utter foolishness. Saw three of them at Breck last week, one in a bright yellow plaid that made the eyes ache. Nice legs though...CK

Never seen anybody actually ski in kilts, but I do know quite a few people who like to wear them and I would have to respond that it is BOTH! Rather utter foolishness in trying to prove thier unparalled bravery (while their wives have a pool going about who will fall first, or have the most cuts and scraps). What can we say, they are men.

Bright Yellow tartan-that would probably be MacLeod.

Back in the Neon days I had a pair of neon pink in the boot stretch pants that I wore with a white/neon trim jacket. It was a beaut! Luckily a big glop of grease fell from the lift and ruined them & Park City paid for them.

I'll have to get SnowHot to get pics of my cow sweater (black and white spots with neon accents) and my ITB stretch pants....you'll just love it! :D

Very crisp, cold day, Northern Alberta, Canada. Man, shiny bald head, jeans (tight), jean jacket with a corduroy collar, probably the worst ski outfit that I have seen....besides the lime green flourescent outfits from way back !!

That guy's a local @ Snowbird & there's even a huge 2' x 3' framed picture of him in the PowderShots store at the base lodge. He won the prize for our worst outfit ratings this year--the competition "paled" by comparison.

And his wife is a zebra.

The funny thing is that he's really uptight about it. I've heard people make comments (not rude comments, just "Wow, that's quite an outifit!", or "You must really like leopard spots!" or something) and he's really rude in reply and doesn't want to bothered.

That's the part I don't get. If you're dressing like it's halloween on a daily basis... wouldn't you be, I don't know... asking for comments on your attire? Yeah, I'm sure he's heard it all before but dude, you're wearing a cape, and painted spots on your skis and boots for crying out loud. How can people not comment!

I have seen 2 people wearing this outfit recently in VT.
The first time I thought it was a halloween outfit but apparently you can buy them for a bargain $300 from Spyder

THAT IS AWESOME!

Anybody have an adversion to one's outfit matching? Do people equate matching to being a bad skier?

I admit, I like to match. I have even been accused of me picking my skis to match my outfit, but those who know me (and have seen my "need ski advice" post, know that's not true.

BTW, my jacket is white, but it does have distinguishing marks (it's a Spyder jkt). With the new materials, the white stays white.

Oh - and what about those hats guys wear with those long colored strands? Had a boyfriend who had one and I think it hurt his feelings when I teased him about it (oops). He was great, otherwise, but the hat had to go.

So bring it...I'm ready.

Saw a great 80's retro getup this weekend. I'll admit, she didn't look bad, just way out of date. Hot pink hat, hot pink long belted jacket, hot pink sweater, hot pink ITB strech pants. To top it off, there was the white rear entry boots, white skis w/hot pink K2s on the top, and white poles with hot pink designs/writing.

My picks for worst ski outfits

1. Those spikey hats and 'dredlock' hats, especially on adults. I just don't get it, but it seems to be a guy thing.

2. Fur coats and hats, especially as seen at Deer Valley.

3. Speedos on men over 50.

animal heads, tails, etc

At Mt. Snow the Friday after "the big snow", I was in a liftline and there was a guy next to me wearing a plaid wool jacket, and an entire coyote skin on his head! The coyote's head came down over his forehead almost between his eyes, and the front legs and paws dangled down the front with the tail and back legs hanging down the man's back. He looked like Conan the Barbarian on skis.
I just couldn't stop myself from saying something, so I told him I hoped the animal peed down the back of his neck. Needless to say, he was't thrilled with my comment, but he couldn't think of a quick comeback, and meanwhile, everyone else near us was snickering.

Oh, that's funny!

I saw a guy with a coon-skin cap last week at Okemo. Since when did Davy Crockett take up skiing?

That takes the cake. Ugh.

Well, just to keep the thread alive, I just LOVE the camo and other hunting gear that I used to see a lot of in Indiana.

LOL, bump.

Round here at all our little family resorts, Camo, carharrt and snomobile suits are very common.

I never put these folks down, they are Keeping it Real.

oh, I collect retro gear too. I've got a great Spring Fling one piece called the Hawaiian Shower Curtain, and a real cool Bogner from about 1972 that's very Bond Girl ( or Emma Peel).

Well, wrt to kilts...when I was a teen, the local hill (and I do mean "hill") hosted an event every March called the "Kilted Keppoch"

Skiers (mostly men) would wear kilts throughout the day for various events. The final event of the day was pond skimming with an opportunity to hit a jump first....

To this day, I have burned into my retinas the image of a 250+ pound HAIRY man going truly "Scottish" and doing a daffy before dropping solidly into the slush!

I have been in therapy for it ever since (that and my 64 year old father wearing flesh-toned speedos but that's another story all together!)

Oh. My. Word.

Personally, I REALLY like this one that was posted at TGR. It had to have cost some serious ducats. I actually spent an evening searching for it online, trying to find the manufacturer, because ANYONE who made something like THAT had to have made something else equally *amazing.* :D Never found the source, though.

And this is what I looked like when I was 16-17.

And yes, those are in-the-boot stretch pants. . . and of course the boots were white, to *go with* the gloves and white stripes on the jacket. I am so sad for me. And yet I kinda wish I still had the jacket, and giant, matching sunglasses!

I never liked the white boots either....especially when I see a man wearing them.
I just think ...Dork!
