Stowe reports receiving over 9 feet of snow in December, and over 12 so far this season! Here in Western MA, we received about 6-8" last night and another 3-6" are expected to fall tomorrow afternoon. It's nice to finally be having a real Winter here in Southern New England....

still snowing in Maine

About 8" in my driveway, slowing down now but still snowing lightly. More due tomorrow night, could be up to 10". :snow: :ski2: After that, looks like some of the wind and cold that has hammered Colorado will be reaching the east coast, then moderating toward weekend. I am suffering through the last day of my Maine Pass blackout days and will be celebrating 1/1 ON SNOW

DS reports dire conditions in the front range as previously noted by others, hope things settle down soon there!

here on Cape Cod we got NOTHING. So I went for a 40 mile bike ride although I'd rather be skiing.

On saturday my son and I drove up to Loon Mt. I thought we had gone far enough to be past the rain/snow line, but evidently not. It was still raining there so we bagged it. Neither of us felt like skiing in the rain, even after driving 3.5+ hours to do just that.

So we headed over to North Conway and shopped the Louis Garneau and Pearl Izumi outlets. Oh, and one ski & snowboard outlet too.

I'll be up there this weekend. Can you describe exactly where are the Louis Garneau and the Pearl Izumi outlets? I try to avoid the outlet ghetto there, but I didn't know these shops were around, so maybe I'll break my rule and take a look. But I'd like to make a beeline for them, so I won't get caught walking past all the other shops ... too much temptatiion.

I know exactly what you mean. Those were the only places we went to since I don't consider shopping a recreational activity.

The LG store is 1881 White Mountain Hwy, according to my receipt. Stay on RT 16 and it is after the LL Bean outlet. PI is right across the street, next to Dunkin Donuts. If you're looking for good coffee, skip DD and go north another mile or so, and you'll see the Met on the left hand side. It's in an old brick bank building and the coffee is yummy.

There is a ski outlet next to Pearl Izumi which had some decent prices. They only had one K2 ski, True Luv I think, but they did have a lot of other brands/models. Boots and clothing too.

Have fun! Are you going up there to ski?

I can hope for more snow in VT tomorrow- keep it coming all week. I took this week off from work and am just waiting for my blackout days to end (hence why I'm online now and not on the hill. But I am baking brownies . But we will be paying to ski tomorrow- just trying to decide between Killington or driving a bit to Sugarbush...

Darn! So close to the snow line. A little farther north, and you'd have crossed it. I think Wildcat was all snow, and everything north of there was snow, if the heavy variety. No problems right now: all snow, very light stuff too. It has now stopped and cleared out. Beautiful. Take heart, it's not going anywhere anytime soon!

I did think about going to Wildcat...now I wish I had done that. I was still tired from the ride I had done the day before and was skeptical about the conditions and my ability to not get injured. My legs felt sort of like jello and I probably had no business thinking of skiing that day anyhow.

I was surprised at how many people were out in the rain at Loon.

Yes! I'll be up there every Fru-Sat-Sun for ski season. I ski Attitash on Fridays (Attitash season pass), wherever on Saturdays, and Wildcat on most Sundays (bought an All-Mountain Sunday morning class that includes an all day lift ticket for six Sundays in a row). I belong to a ski club in North Conway, and stay there when I go up. Some Saturdays are race days, and I go wherever the race is. This year it will be Black, Wildcat, Cranmore, and Shawnee Peak.

Maybe we can meet up some time. :snow:

Would love to! Which ski club is it that you belong to? I was reading of one that has an in that member can stay at, but I don't remember where it was.

There must be twenty ski clubs in North Conway, NH, area, all of which have lodges, any of which will be glad to have you visit as a "prospective member." They usually charge around $20.00 per night. It's a bunk with bathroom down the hall, bring your own stuff, kind of situation. Find the clubs by going to:

https://www.EICSL.org

EICSL, Eastern Inter-Club Ski League, is the parent organization for most of the clubs in the area. You can look around on that site for the club's names. This should lead you to all the club websites. Some have websites, others don't.

If you come up and visit my club, the SkiBees, I'll show you around!
Let me know if you're interested.

Hey Trimom, this sure sounds like a nice option for you! I looked at the website - wow. There are so many MA clubs - as long as you're still a resident of the state (if reluctant), you might as well take advantage of what looks to be some terrific opportunities! I'd personally join for the companionship alone  -- no major ski clubs in rural Maine, that's for sure.

So, MaineSkiLady,
That's a lot of positive words about us N. Conway skiers. When are you coming over to North Conway to ski with us NH skiers - some of whom happen to live in MA?

"Race" membership in my club is real cheap, and assumes you'll just come for the races - mostly. This SUNDAY (!!!  !!!) is the first race. A guest at a club gets a free race. Lift tickets at the host mountain are discounted. I think it's at Wildcat, but I need to check.

Wanna come this weekend to the SkiBees and enter the race????? Seriously. It would be fun. PM me if yes.

Lovely invitation, wish I could -- unfortunately, winter weekends here generally mean that we are bombarded with company ("the inn"). Including this coming weekend  -- however, we're used to it and actually do enjoy it. However, never say never with regard to the future  ! If only there were similiar groups in my region....sigh...I have to make a $500 Maine Pass pay itself off, and with these 2 large resorts so nearby, it's hard to tear myself away most days, although I have been to Cranmore (fun place! Love Kearsage!), Attitash and Wildcat.

These ski clubs sound so cool, though - sure wish there were similar opportunities around here. There really aren't.

Will pm you if/when I get a chance to get over there!

Maine New Year's Day storm update: we got about 15" here, so we're now pushing 2 feet since New Year's Eve Day. With high winds expected to come later, this stuff is going to major-drift. But anyone who got "stuck" (pity... ) at Sugarloaf or Saddleback yesterday through today is GONNA GET THE GOODS :ski2: - a true and rare east coast POWDA DAY :snow: !! Yahoo! But it is definitely a 4WD mega snow tire day, and slow going on the roads.
