I picked up a flyer at one of my favorite ski/bike shops but didn't really read it until this afternoon.

They are starting an annual event called Wine Women Wax
It is being described like this:

Please join us for an exciting evening of great wine, amazing women and HOT wax. Meet and mingle with women of all ages who like you, want comfort, safety and convenience for all of our active sports.

25%*OFF Merchandise
the Night of the Event

In honor of other amazing women, ALL proceeds from
our silent auction will go to the Women's Resource
Center. So, please join us for our first annual Wine,
Women and Wax.

I think this is a "must do" for me and my girlfriend.

Any one else have a shop who reaches out to the female sector like this?

That is a fantastic idea! What a great shop! If I were there, I'd definitely go. I don't know anyone else who does that.

I wish the web link were more informative but it's only set up for RSVP's for now

I guess they did a Wine Women and Wheels night in the summer for bicycles, but I was too busy to attend. I am definitely making it to the ski night.
And 25% off!
What diva can resist a bargain?:D

The wine and women I get. Now, just what kind of waxing are we talking about? Leg/bikini or skis;)

That's no good to me, my husband does all the waxing while I lie on the couch and drink the wine.

;)

What a great idea. I'm going to mention this to someone I know and see if something similar can be started here. Any good charity needs help and getting a bunch of women skiers/riders together is always a hit.

I was thinking.(uh oh, never good when I start a sentence with that)

If they planned a night like this for men, what would you call it?

Whine Weenies & Wax?

Shell, you're getting this one wrong!
I volunteer to wax all the skis in our "stable".
When he's trash talking my skiing, I just choose the appropriate wax for "his" skis and "my" skis.
;)

Imagine that! For some reason his skis are "sticky" when mine are "cruising"

Volklgirl and I joined another of our female ski buddies and headed out to Wine Women & Wax, Hosted by Brick Wheels, in Traverse City Michigan, tonight.

The night included complimentary wines from the area, a cheese and dessert table. There were vendor tables from a ski resort, chocolate shop, Specialty Coffee's, among others.

They set up a beautiful tent with Beautiful Auction items for a silent auction. All proceeds from the silent auction went to the Womens Resource Center(for battered women).

FEMALE attendees recieved 25% off purchases during the event and a voucher for 15% off anything from now until November 15th.

When we arrived, we were amazed at the turnout. The parking lot was full, cars were parked down the street, and at parking lots of adjacent business'.
Brick Wheels has done a great job with this event and generated tremendous donations for a good cause.

This event was HUGE!

I must admit, I found some things I just had to have, and at a savings, too!

So was it informative? And did you learn anything new?

And most important of all -- what'd you buy? :D

Well, there wasn't a clinic, but you could sign up for clinics. The night was about pampering the women, giving great attention, good deals on product, and then there was the silent auction. The items were great!
I actually bid on and won a great Swix luggage set.
Bid on and didn't win a Beautiful Patagonia jacket and pants set.
There was a pamper day Donated by Crystal Mountain Resorts, Nordica and Cherry Capitola SUBARU!
A New Subaru for the day two sets of demo skis from Nordica and two ski passes at Crystal Mountain.
A beautiful Lavender ski jacket with matching snow shoes, several wine glass with a bottle of wine,..........the list goes on and on. It was not difficult to spend a few hours there.

And most important of all -- what'd you buy? :D
Well, the first thing I saw was something I had to have. A vest with an embroidered Wine women and wax emblem on it. Then of course, I had to buy a ski zip up sweater to go with it. and new gloves, not to mention the afore mentioned Swix luggage I won in the silent auction.

Also, I should let Kris tell you about this because she was certainly the expert in this part of it.
We convinced our friend to buy some Much needed boots.

OMG! They say the camera adds 10 lbs...

Great pics though!

While I was hoping for a more information-oriented night (wax/tuning clincs, boot fitting clinics, ski info, etc...), but we still had a great time and it looked like they raised gobs of $$ for the Women's Resource Center. We were amazed at the turnout. I don't think I've seen that many women in one place before. Everyone was running the poor sales guys ragged, so I took over as chief boot fitter ;) . Our friend finally took the plunge last night and got out of her rear entry boots, Yay!! We spent about an hour picking out her new boots. We measured and shell fit her, then made her try on about 7 prs of boots - both feet, a different one on each foot, same boot but a different size on each foot.....boy did we work up a sweat!

I can't wait to see what a difference it will make in her skiing!!!

ummmmm...big blank here :o

If I recall, she ended up with the Technica Easy Move 6 in a size 25.5 (see her left foot in the pic). I actually had her in 24.5s which is the correct size, but she's coming from super-roomy rear entries and she was uncormfortable with the more performance oriented fit. That's OK though. These are a lower performance boot, so as she progresses out of them she can go to a closer fit in the next pair. I still think there will be a huge jump in her skiing with these!

Kris you were stylin' in that Ice Man sweatshirt! And Congrats on doing the IceMan! That is huge!

I think we were all amazed at the turn out! I, for one was impressed with the atmosphere they created for this.

Their boot guy said it looked like Kris knew what she was doing and he'd wished he'd hired her for the night.

.....boy did we work up a sweat!
A room filled with all those women. And you thought it wasn't going to be full of hot air?:D
I can't wait to see what a difference it will make in her skiing!!!
She is going to Love you for this!

I just got off the phone with Kristi from Brick Wheels. I tried to write down everything she shared with me but I'd like to apologize in advance if I am leaving anything out.

I hope you ladies will be patient while I share with you some of the details.
There were over 350 women in attendance!

The wine was served by - Chateau' Grand Traverse
Coffee was served by - So Good Coffee of Traverse City
Impress Salon provided hand waxing and complimentary shampoo samples
Live music was performed by - Windy Ridge Band
Chocolates were provided by - Traverse City Truffle
The Womens Resource Center( of course!)
Cherry Capitol Subaru, Crystal Mountain Resort, Timber Ridge (nordic trails), Cherry Capitol Cycle Conservation, Traverse Women Rec Trails, were all represented as well as the normal shop reps(Nordica, technica, etc.....) to provide information.

The reason I wanted to list all of these is to take in the scope of involvment it takes to make a wonderful event like this happen. Kudos to Kristi and the gang at Brick Wheels for making it happen.

It sounds like it was a great time. Maybe by posting it, it might get around to other shops in other towns. I don't think I've heard of anything like it. Good go for Brick Works and their charity. I'm off to a Canadian ski instructors event the end of November and some of the ski company reps will be there. Don't think I won't mention it to them!!

Wish more ski shops would have events for women. The possibilities are endless: how to tune, wax, care for your skis; how to select helmets, skis, boots, etc; ski wear fashion shows, etc. There are lots of women skiers with a lot of purchasing power, and a smart retailer would do what they could to get them into their store. Sounds like Kristi may be on to something!
