Wilmot 2/5 (holy sh*t, I found powder!)

Went up for some night skiing last night, it was raining a ton in Chicago, so I called the hill when I was getting out of work to ask about the weather. I was told a few flurries were starting up, but no rain, so I heading onwards. Truly horrible traffic (atypical) and halfway there it's hail storming so I check again, and by then a couple inches had come down! So I trudged on, and the usual hour-hour and a half ride took nearly 3 hours. Grumble, grumble.

The grumbling stopped as soon as I got there. I took one run and couldn't see, as snow kept getting in my eyes and freezing in my eyelashes. Grabbed the goggles from the car (I hate goggles, never wear them ever, but keep em in my bag for some reason. Last night I had a good reason!) Skied a few runs and decided to go exploring where the lifts weren't running (runs weren't closed though). Untouched snow and tons of it! Fluffy stuff with only my tracks. Totally new concept for this crowded, icy hill skier. I often get out on the hill when there aren't people on it anymore (freezing nightskiing), but somehow with no one having been on it since the snow fell it felt emptier. Ungroomed snow that actually fell from the sky on the Wisconsin/Illinois border and plenty of room to enjoy it, a totally new concept for me, but one that I welcome with open arms.

Wish I had a camera with me! Honestly though, it was so much fun I don't know if I would've stopped to take pictures :D

and now you know...

:snow: Welcome to our world, num! Really something, isn't it? Does this whet your appetite for Utah??? Because it's not only gonna get in your eyes, it's gonna get in your nose and your mouth and just about anywhere else it can  ! So now you know the peace, beauty and quiet of pow---as if you weren't already gung-ho enough! Cannot wait to hear your Utah report after you return!! More snow coming out there, looks like great winter weather for a change.

I can't wait to go to Solitude! Are you sure you can't join us, MSL?

Num, you can't NOT wear goggles here. Make sure you bring those!

sigh...

Wish wish.....$ just a little tight this year :( ....$3.39/gal heating oil is just kicking our butts - trying to heat more with wood (stove), have already burned up 2 full cords. I have, however, been to Solitude on 4 different trips to Utah and have just LOVED it. I'll be there "in spirit!" Maybe next year, wherever it might be....

It gets in your blood, too. :eyebrows:

Congrats on your powder "day", num! And you had it all to yourself. Even better!

That corner of WI (SE) just got between 15 and 20" of snow yesterday. Friends from region sent pics. Record single snowfall. Can you say :snow: ??? SO happy for num and those who love snow!

I won't be at Solitude, darn it, but I agree -- wear the goggles!

And, yeah, that powder DOES get in everywhere, including the blood! (don't bring white skis!)

No Goggles?
Wow, I can't imagine how my eyes would hold up without protection.

Powder in the Midwest is like a gold mine. Glad you got your stash!

That's funny! I'm glad you had such a great time.
