Who's Taken the Kids Skiing Yet?

I took 2 of my kids skiing and snowboarding today at our local hill. They both had new equipment and boots, and they did really well. My 14 year old daughter loved her new snowboard and was moving down the hill faster and with more confidence than I'd ever seen. All she needs is some teen company on the hill and she'll be super happy. Of course, she won't take her helmet off except in the bathroom so she can fix her hair right away! My 11 year old daughter had a lesson and then, skied with me for a bit, and then ran into a friend her age who was skiing with 2 other girls and 1 mom, and they had a great time. The result was that I had about an hour to ski by myself, which was fun.

I tried out my new Solomon Mynx skis and they were great! Super easy turning, skiing switch, and they performed really well on the hardpack conditions. I just tried to take my time going up on edge and that seemed to help keep the flow going. They're gonna be a blast in the park and are a great all mountain ski as well which makes them very versatile. A great Mom ski for all conditions.

I took my 17 yr old son with me this weekend. I've got to get all I can this year since he's off to college next year. Man, I'm going to miss that kid!

Skied my new Atomics but I don't think Gunstock offered anything for me to really give them a good ride on.

We should have gone to Sunapee for a quick day trip.

Oh, the other good part about going with a 17 yr old....he'll do most of the driving

We just got back from a weeklong trip to Steamboat Springs with the Crescent Ski Council. They have sponsored a race/combo camp there for 19 years. This was our first. I took my 16 year old daughter out of school for a week. She got to use her new snowboard (Burton Feelgood with Lexa bindings) with a class of 4 other students and a fantastic instructor from Australia (Abbey Slingsby). I skied in the combo8 group with my old Rossi 9S Oversize that will likely become rock skis. I had a bunch of great guys and one other woman who slipped in and out of the class. The conditions when we arrived last Saturday were terrible. They got just enough snow to keep a few slopes open, and then on Thursday it began to snow ALOT! We got about 18 inches over the course of 4 days. It is still snowing there. They opened terrain at the top of the mountain on Saturday, but most of the week was spent on pretty sketchy stuff, lots of grass and rocks sticking through. I learned more last week than I have through any other group instruction. My pole plants are much more timed and accurate and so my bump skiing has improved greatly. I am so pumped about skiing right now that I want to quit life and become a ski bum! We got home yesterday to 80 degree weather!! Now the great white north seems like a distance memory:Cry:

I just bought my 14 year old a Burton Troop with Lexa bindings and she tried it out on Sunday and loved it. The Feelgood is a great board but at my daughter's weight and level of experience, the Troop was a better choice.

I took my 10 yr old son out for his first day (my 4th) for opening Saturday at our local hill in Tahoe. All snow was from the heavens & it was a great day. I was wupped all day Sunday after keeping up with him Sat. Good thing I had pre-scheduled a 1/2 private for the following Monday. I couldn't cop out for fatigue & I needed it to help me keep up with him for a few more weeks. He won't hardly stop for food even !

Been years for me

Why can't I find the sad icon? I'll just go with  My son (grown) is 2,000 miles away, working over the holidays, won't see him this year for holidays (more  ) And it's his birthday Friday, too. (Born on the first day of winter, how's THAT for a sign? ) Haven't actually skied with him since 1998, last time I saw him on skis (he boards), but I miss being out on the snow w/him. Moms of skiing kids, enjoy it while it lasts --- goes too fast....(may not SEEM like it at the time, but trust me on this)

I hear you MSL.. The end is near for us as well. My son got his acceptance letter yesterday to Champlain College, and even tho it's only 6 hours away, do you think he's going to want to still ski with Mom? Makes me sad to think about that, so I'm not going to. I'll just enjoy this winter together while we still have it.

Hi TM217! Hope all's well @ your house! Congrats to your son! Fear not, you shall find him to be a wonderful "adult" skiing partner in the years to come! For me, the bigger issue is currently one of geography....

Happiest of holidays, and don't forget to PM me if you head up to Sunday River, ME sometime this winter  !

I will definitely let you know when we head to SR. Looks like a Christmas day trip to Sunapee next week as son's & hubby's work schedules don't allow for anything else. I was counting on SR for Christmas but can't pull it off.

Happy happy to you and yours as well
