Or will you be too wiped out from partying the night before?

Me, I'm working. So no skiing for me. :( I will on the 2nd, though.

Happy New Year to all Ski Divas!

I plan to! "Maine Pass" (Sunday River and Sugarloaf) final blackout day for holiday season is today. I'm guessing most of the blacked out passholders might have the same idea.....so I'm expecting it to be mega-crowded, even at 8:00 a.m. Lots of hardcores.

We did, however, ski at a little place 20 miles west of here on Friday night - always fun to ski "under the lights" - from 5-9. It was deserted, almost like having a private ski area, only 1k of vertical and only the t-bar running, but what fun!

Happy New Year to all!!

Yep!

Plan to ski "locallly" at Catamount, MA.

Being a New Yorker, I had the luxury of choosing whether to do the Time Square thing depending on weather. I only do it when the weather is unsuitable for skiing, i.e. warm and dry! This New Year is looking to be a skiable one and a bit too cold for hanging out.

Best of both world!

(It's questions like this that reminds me why I live in NY despite the long and hideous drive to the mountains!)

Not me! I'm staying away from the slopes until the tourists leave.

New Year's Eve we're snowshoeing to a highpoint above Denver to watch fireworks. New Year's day we're also snowshoeing then having brunch at a friend's house.

Will return to the slopes on Jan. 8th and will ski or snowshoe nonstop for the next 3 weeks.

I will be! In fact, I'm very much looking forward to skiing that morning with nobody. This season has been a stressful one for coaching due to the dynamics of my group and it's been so d*mn cold that it's nearly impossible to get much done with these little ones. Yesterday it was so bitter cold that their little fingers were frozen solid halfway down the mountain.

Yep, we have a New Year's Day skiing tradition also.

And our blackout week will have passed, so it's back to the slopes! :becky:

We always ski New Year's Day- great day to be on the snow with low turnout. We also always ski Super Bowl Sunday. Another great day because the crowds are usually low.

We plan to go! We have found that it's not too crowded on that day! Hoping they get a little bit of fresh snow!

Personally Steven's Pass it always packed during the holidays but the snow here has been unbelievable so I plan on going New Years Eve because less people will be on the pass

I just got back from skiing with my kids at my local hill, and yes, I'll be taking 2 of them and a friend of my daughter's skiing and riding on New Year's Day. We're supposed to get ~ 6" of fresh tonight and 1-3" on New Year's Day!

:snow:

Skiing New Year's Eve day (tomorrow). Hopefully there won't be too many people there. And Robyn is right..it has been brutally cold up in the mountains this week. Last Thursday it was -10 on North Peak at Keystone. My friends & I usually avoid skiing durng the holiday week, but we thought with the cold it would keep some of the tourists off the mountain. WRONG!!!

New Years day some friends are going to take a dip into a local lake...crazy people. I'm bringing the Baileys, hot chocolate and the CPR skills!

Happy & safe New Year to all!:ski2:

Hope they're not taking a dip in Lake Dillon! I understand it's to cold to swim in the summer. Is it frozen yet? When we were last up there, Dec. 21, it wasn't completely frozen.

We just got back from snowshoeing around our neighborhood. There's a drainage ditch near our house. We were able to spend over an hour exploring around it. Normally, we wouldn't go in that area. No one else has been there either!

I love having the best of both worlds, snow at home, Denver, and snow in the mtns!

I'm bringing the Baileys, hot chocolate ...

Mmmmm, we call that a Gaelic Hot Chocolate. Don't forget the whipped cream topping!

...and I'm not going skiing New Years Day, I'm still blacked-out

Always. I will only be running up to the hill for the morning though, I have to work in the afternoon. Can't complain, I've been off all week and the snow has been incredible.

Well, there might not be a ski day tomorrow. I70 is closed in both directions from Vail to the foot hills of Denver. Berthoud Pass (to Winter Park) and Loveland Pass both closed.

Too bad. Lots of new snow, just high winds to go with it. I'll ski in negative degree weather, but I HATE the wind!
