Who's racing this year???

If you get a chance to race Nastar this year, DO IT!! It's one of the best things you can do for your skiing (besides lessons and proper equipment). The coolest thing is that it's totally non-competitive and is usually set on a blue or very easy black so anyone of any age can do it. There's no 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.....it's all done on a handicap system and it doesn't matter how anyone else does that day, you're only racing against yourself and the US SKi Team!

Let's all post a link to our page or Nastar ID# so we can cheer each other on!

I raced one day back in March 2005 and got a bronze medal on my third run (KLE621). I'll probably do a few this year.

I agree--racing just that one day did wonders for my skiing confidence and for reducing my fear of going fast. It was lots of fun!

I'm sure we'll get one or two Nastar races in this year. It's one of those things that we do when there hasn't been any new snow for awhile...and this year has been really good for snow, so we've spent lots of time off-piste!

Last year I did two races and got Bronze on my second run for each. I'd like to get a Silver this year. New boots and a fresh wax on the skis just might do it for me. :eyebrows:

i tried a nastar course this week, and was not impressed with my ability. so a ski buddy who is addicted to it is going to teach me how "to ski the gates" this week. i'll need a while before i'll time myself, but i'm on the path.

so much of what i'm working on on the slopes seems to consist of very slow skiing (the instructor yesterday was trying to see how many possible turns i could make on a short black -- 50? 75? 100?), so the shift to speed on the nastar course felt very different and a bit scary. but i'll give it a shot.
